I just pick up or soak up and then spray with one of the carpet spot cleaners and wipe up the foam after the time recommended. Do not worry too much about the hygiene the urine is sterile and the poo should cause not problem if the pup is wormed and even not if the deposit is removed there is not problem.

Or rip up all carpets and install laminate/tiles :D

Put a wet teatowel on it and leave it for a while. Got this tip from a bloke who came to clean the carpets and it works well.

I use a damp cloth with 1001 carpet shampoo (£1 for a bottle at Diskos) - think it's actually for use in a carpet cleaning machine, but find it okay for wiping up after puppy's accidents (which don't happen too frequently - just the odd wee now and again!).

Would suggest if you choose the wet teatowel option you keep one specially for the dogs ;)

soak it up with kitchen roll, and then spray on watered down distilled white vinegar, stops smell and dog won't wee there again.

And don't forget to mark that teatowel in some way, and then tell the family how you marked it. Otherwise imagine eating off plates that have been dried with that special teatowel. :D

Got a dishwasher. :D All tea towels are redundant here, other than for spillages on carpet. Don't have a puppy but granddaughter is on potty training. ;)
Not sure about the poop but clean the wee with diluted vinegar and then sprinkle bi-carb soda on the mark, this will draw out all the fluid and it wont stain, once the bi-carb has completely dried usually within 24hrs. vacuum it up,you must wait until it is dry or else you will clog up your vacuum. You should have seen my carpets when we were toilet training our pup, there were white piles of powder all over our carpets, this went on for 3 draining months!

If it's poo or sick - we find the best thing to remove it from the carpet is a wallpaper scrapper :D

To remove sick I call my mum. I can cope with most things but not sick, OOOoooo
To stop fresh urine staining pour some "fizzy" water on it before you mop it up as this lifts it out of the carpet
