Topic Dog Boards / General / k.c question

i have a question about the age that the K.C says pups should be before they should leave mum to go to their new homes? my breeder says she used to let them go at 7 weeks as long as she felt that they were ready to go but she thinks that it may have changed since her last litter was bred to 8 weeks, as the pet plan insurance starts at 8weeks? does anyone know? thanks in advance

Don't think they do. It depends so much on the breed, the breeder, the buyer and the circumstances of that particular litter. Would have thought that with this breed the pup going to an experienced owner 7 weeks is fine. Take it you mean a Sibe.

I think you will find the petplan cover starts at 6 weeks old.

It says here that Petplan insurance starts from 8 weeks. Is the KC insurance with Petplan?
- By husky_lover [gb] Date 23.04.04 14:51 UTC
yes its the k.c  insurance with pet plan

Unless they have changed Insurance Providers very recently the KC Insurance provider is NOT petplan.

I believe the KC provide 6 weeks cover providing the pup does not go to the new owner until it is 8 weeks of age.

Husky lover,

I know you probably can't wait to take your new puppy home, but most reputable breeders don't let their sibe pups go until at least 8 weeks of age. They learn important lessons from their mum at this age, so I'd recommend you wait that little bit longer.

Best of luck with your new pup.

hi sweetpie thanks for the reply, believe me i am very willing to wait until 8 weeks i have waited for years for her so a few more weeks isnt a problem lol,  as for the breeder she is very reputable and i am happy to be guided by her, ;-) thanks for taking the time to reply :-)

No, the Kennel Club's cover applies to pups homed from 6 weeks of age.

The KC Insurance is not Petplan. It says here (click on 'benefits' then 'free 6-week puppy cover) that the pup must be at least 6 weeks old.

Michelle when we got Amy we got free cover from the breeder and guess what it was petplan. But it is the breeder who supplied it not the kennel club Thanks
