I've been looking at various insurance companies and premiums. I've seen a company advertised in Dog World (can't remember their name, though) and their premium seems really low in comparison to some of the others. Does anyone use this company and would you recommend them?

Hello
If the insurance company is Equine Live Stock ( E&L) I think they usually do a half page advert.
Well I would'nt touch them at all! I had to use them once when I had a dog that had a blocked tear gland, my vet reffered me to a specialist who said the gland would benefit from being gently enlarged, which we had done, we were told that there may be the odd occasion when this may need to be done again, I did sell the puppy with the new owners being fully aware of this and gave them the specialist letters stating everything. I did not cancel the insurance policy (E & L) when I sold the pup but when the renewal came through they put an endorsement on anything to do with the eyes and vision.
I actually have this dog (now 2 years old and not a puppy now) for grooming and his eyes are fine and certainly not a problem.
I would strongly advise you to take out a for life policy, various pet insurance companies do them.

I have my two insured with them. Because I am just not willing to pay over £40 a month insurance for 2 dogs. The only reason I insure them is because they are running dogs and accidents happen when they are zooming round at a million miles an hour (broken limbs etc). If I had a breed that was more likely to get certain conditions as many problems are connected to specific breeds (eg. hip dysplasia) I would consider getting a for life policy, but my breed are fairly problem free and although i am fully aware any dog could get any disease I am willing to take that risk - with E&L you are covered for any condition for a year anyway.
Interesting to read your experience Pat, but i wonder if any other isurance companies would ahev done this also - just a thought! I just feel the others are too much money for me - but if money is no option go for it they do provide better coverage.

If the company you are referring to IS E & L, neither I nor very many people I know would recommend them. Have you done any research with regard to claims and insurance ombudsman .............................?

Just had a look at Marks & Spencers pet insurance following someones recommendation and it looks really good and it is as cheap as E&L - might be worth a try - has anybody had any experience?

JMO but cost when looking for an insurance policy shouldn't be the main factor, you only get what you pay for. Benefits and the track record of the company are very important.

I have just changed to Marks and Spencer. Haven't had to claim yet, but the cover is as good if not better then most.
