Just after some advice from some experienced breeders. I have read a lot of the info on the site and so some questions have been answered. My bitch was mated 11 days ago and 2 days ago we noticed a thick brown discharge, we consulted out vet and he said to monitor her. There was no more discharge that day and she was her normal self, not showing any of the signs of pyometra. This morning we again noticed some more of the discharge on her bed when she got up, again not a lot, but still obviously this should not be happening. My partner took her to the vets 1st thing this morning, he had a swab taken and we are now just waiting for the results - he suggested this definaltely was not a good sign of pregnancy! Hopefully this will turn out to be a normal (not serious) vaginal infection. Has anyone else had this happen to their bitch and then gone on to have a normal litter? The vet is also reluctant to prescribe antibiotics at this time also. Any advice or experience of this would be grateful.

i had this with my girl who is on day 58 today! everything looks fine and ok, pups moving, seen lots of heartbeats etc on the scan, i think as she sometimes has a long season, the vet described it as cleaning out what she had left! i havent got a clue what the antibiotics were called, but they were apparantly safe for pregnant bitches, which was my worry also.
hope it helps, and good luck!

I also had this with one of my bitches, two weeks after she was mated (happened with both of her litters) vet gave antibiotics and she was fine and puppies were too. Few years ago i had a bitch that started to bleed heavily two weeks after mating. We took her straight to the vet, he said that if she was pregnant that she was having a miscarriage. The bleeding went on but not as heavy for the next seven weeks, she was given antibiotics, she produced nine healthy puppies.

Think it is usually a good sign that she's in whelp. so long as it's not too heavy. Quite common to have a discharge about 15 days post-mating, but if in doubt, consult your vet.
