Hello
My friend has a bitch who is allergic to something environmental and at certain points during the year her skin becomes itching and has sores and she licks herself a lot. This is treated by creams, baths, antibiotics depending on how bad it is. My friend it wondering whether it would be OK to use Frontline on her or not? Do you think it could make it worse or not, any views on this matter would be helpful.
Kelly

Hi Kelly,
Get your friend to ask her vet. He is the one who knows the bitch's medical history.

Hello Kelly.
I have used Frontline for many years without any ill effect but of course you never can say for certain, particulaly when, as you say, the dog has mild allergic reactions to something anyway. I think, under the circumstances I personally would go for the spray rather than the spot on treatment. I've never been so happy with the spot on's anyway.
As a thought, have you ever been able to find any sort of pattern with the allergy? Something you are doing? cleaning carpets? putting fertiliser on lawns? Maybe a time of year? Pollen? Farmers spraying? Oil seed rape? It's amazing what you can work out if you keep minute details when a reaction occures.
Best wishes, John

Hi,
One of my bitches cannot have Frontline, she comes out in little sores which weep
and she ends up scratching all over. This only happens when we use Frontline needless to say we stopped using it on her it didn't seem to affect the other dogs.
Briony:-)
briony - how quickly does she come out in the sores?
We frontlined Millie on Friday night - on saturday afternoon we found a scabby sore (which she has been scratching/biting) -and yesterday I found another one. I assumed it couldn't be the frontline as it was too quick to have caused a reaction like that, and as she had just been shaved that week it was something that had been there before but we hadn't noticed due to her thick coat. But I thought I would just find out how quickly your bitch showed a reaction

One of my Spanish has pulled his fur out after using Frontline, it doesn't affect my other dogs but I won't use it on him anymore.

Hi,
My bitch came out in the sores within 48hrs ,and it took weeks for all the scabs to heal with the help of a cream, didn't help with her constantly scratching and finding pieces of furniture ro rub against for the areas she couldn't reach with her feet.

Hi,
Sorry, also forgot her fur used to come out around the scabs too,but I guess they took a long time to clear because the frontline would take a while to clear from her system.
Briony:-)
HI, thanks for the replies. We noticed the first sore within about 14 hours, and there was no hair loss, so I think it possibly relates to the other itchy problem I am having with her then and not the Frontline. Well at least that's another possibility eliminated!
