Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / dog friendly sofa - such a thing??
- By Guest [gb] Date 21.04.04 22:42 UTC
hello
to all those who "allows" your dogs on your sofa. Just a silly question... but i am buying a new sofa and wondered if anyone could advise me.... will i have to live with throws for the rest of my life or is there such a thing as a sofa whose material is dog friendly ... easy to clean??  Just interested as cleaning throws and dog hairs is becoming a daily if not twice daily routine!!

thanks

All my dogs (5 of them) get on the sofa's. Lost that argument years ago. After spending a fortune on two sets of suites in 5 years, I decided to go insane and purchase leather sofa's. Believe it or not, its the best thing I ever did, a year on it still looks like new. muddy paws wash off, dog hair hoovers up, even their nails do not penetrate or rip it.

Leather - every time, preferable the coarser style with cushiony seats....

Yep, I hated the leather suite my OH insisted on buying 4 years go - four months of dog ownership and I'm singing its praises.  I would only buy a leather suite now.

Brought my first leather suite about 6 months ago...wouldn't have anything else now!!.Its easy to clean and cespite all the 'wear' it gets its totally unmarked.
I would suggest if you get leather you get one of the  'harder' looking ones ..not one of the very soft squishy ones.

Leather setees are a god send. Even if you purchase a second hand one!!
They are so easy to clean. Personally I dont go for fancy cleaners, good old soap and water and a soft cloth is all thats needed. I even went as far as buying a cream one. Ive had it 8 months now and it still looks like new, even with my dog, 2 cats, and kids!!

I'm all for leather too.
We had a material one previously and i was too tired of it being dirty and covered in dog hairs. The leather one we got is fantastic, the hairs just come off and we can wipe it clean. Can'nt recommend it enough.

I've got the best dog friendly sofa ever! - it's called the floor LOL .Sorry. :P)
Leather are supposed to be good, but have heard that their claws can scratch and rip it, so it would have to be a good quality one. Mind you we had a debate not long back on Idle chat about leather sofas. Some thought they were brilliant, some had the probs that I mentioned. Seem to remember a couple of people being happy with the quality of Ikea leather sofas. Suppose it depends on how big your dog is, or if it's one of those that turns round and round for 10 minutes before flopping down. I have giant cushions scattered about the house for my dogs, one of mine is a twizzler and also claws and prods endlessly before lying down, so I'd have no sofa left if I allowed him up.
