A friend has asked me if she can use frontline on a pregnant bitch ?? I have never had the need to so didn't know the answer to give her ...but i said i know some people who might know :)

No frontline is not recommended for pregnant bitches & there is good reason for this.
There have been a few cases where problems have arisen after giving it to pregnant bitches.

No chemicals!! If fleas and ticks are a concern, I suggest a garlic supplement. I had a winter litter, so I didn't have to worry about it, but a friend who breeds GSDs had a summer litter and just fed everyone garlic capsules and never had a single flea or tick. :)

Hi
On the packaging of frontline it states frontline is safe to use on prenant and nursing bitches
plus pups at age 2 days
Double checked with the vet a couple of months ago
stronghold is also fine

Hi,
I do not used frontline on pregnant bitches but do use it at other times, I always give my dogs Garlic & fenugreek 2 a day, (my little lad takes the tablets from my hand).
I spoke actually to my vet about this only last night, and he said that the spray one was ok. I did use this about three years ago when I had a litter, I sprayed the mum and the pups did not want to know her, I had to take her to the sink and bath her to remove all of the smell and then things were OK.
Actually I don't like using any chemical when the dogs are pregnant prefering homepathic remedies.

I suppose vets differ in opinion on this then, because my vet said NO WAY to chemical flea preventatives. When Daisy was first pregnant I kept finding a flea on her for the first few weeks because it was still the season for them.

If I remember correctly, the enclosed leaflet in Frontline does stipulate that no safety data is available on puppies under 10 weeks, and for this reason I didnt use it on my bitch while she was pregnant. I used Xenex which is a natural product, now available from Canine Chemists in spray and spot on, and it seemed effective.
