Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Licking Wee?
- By Jo-Basset [gb] Date 21.04.04 17:11 UTC
Hi
Sorry about this...promise I've tried to look back since 2001 for previous threads on this before asking. ;)
We laid slabs in part of the garden at Easter, since this, my 10 month old girl has discovered that her wee is no longer absorbed in the ground like it was before...and has taken to licking it? There's a filled water bowl continuously in the garden and she doesn't try this if she does wee out on a walk (rare occurance...wee I mean....not the walks ;) ). Is there anything untoward with this at all? All I've done so far is to distract her by calling her name and throwing her ball to fetch.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Jo

Hi Jo, tasting other dogs pee is normal but not to do so to there own. Think she may be tring to clear up after herself, she may consider the yard as part of the house, have no idea what you can do except to give her an area of grass to go on.

Hiya Jackie...thanks for that. It appears that you're right again. After encouragement throughout the day today (which I'll continue), she's gone back to using the lawn. As you said, she must have 'discovered' the slabbed area & thought she needed to clear up after herself?
(Was worried she'd end up with stomache upset if she continued, if this is indeed possible?)
Cheers
Jo

Fresh wee is quite sterile, so no worries on that score....... :)

Sore tongue I would think but the stomach should not be effected.

Thank you both for that.
Husband walked through back gate just an hour ago during play time & she did an 'excited' wee on the slabbed area and went to momentarily 'clean' it again...& then realised she didn't have to :D Certainly indicates her unfamiliarity with the new surface is improving ;)
Thanks again
Jo
