Odd question but am wondering how much sleep would you expect a 9 month old puppy to have (10 mths at the end of april)

After having changed his diet from beta to burns in feb/march he seems to settle so much quicker and is calmer.  We are no longer launching ourselves from the sofa or charging round as much???

we both work but he is on his own for a couple of hours in a morning then my dad goes round and is there til i get home at lunch and OH comes home after me, but even when we are there all day his routine is wake up, walk then playtime at home, sleeps for a few hours, and sometimes have a mid morning play followed by lunch and yep more sleep :D, wake up in the aft entertain ourselves followed by another walk and playtime/training at home then tea then sleep.

I'm not complaining but for a boxer was expecing more charging round, obviously when there are guests and new people he changes into a kangaroo, bouncing all over and punching

On a nite he sleeps through til we get up 6am, usually on our bed, have lost that battle :-(

Will this change as he goes into adolescents (sp) or is he quiet cos he is having a final growth spurt?

on a different note i bought those burns fish treats, dear god do they wiff......... the first time sir had one he played with it on the kitchen floor, had to open windows.  OH complained at the smell and i told him it wasnt too bad here see and thrust the packet to his nose ............... :D :D he was not impressed.

Not really sure what I would expect from 9 mnth boxer but I have a lab that sleeps for england, he's even grumpy if you get up early and disturb him :D :D :D.  When I come home from work he greets me with a song, fetches his teddy, goes out to do his business and then back to bed. If I am not pottering about he is in bed, now if Henry the hoover comes pout thats a different story entirely, he turns into a bouncy young pup lol

I'm not an expert but can only tell you about my experiences with Glazby.  He's a 2 year old boxer and we often wonder about the amount he sleeps.

We get up at 6.30am and he's walked for half an hour.  We leave the house at 8am for work and he's already settled on the sofa by then (we lost that battle!!).  I come home at 12noon and literally have to wake him from his slumbers to take him for a 40 minute run around and plays.  I leave him again at 1pm but make sure that he's all settled down again before I go.  We then get home at 5pm and go for another walkies.  He'll then be happy to play a bit in the evening but is usually found cuddled up with mum and dad on the sofa!!  We then give him a last run at around 9pm before going to bed at 10pm.

Even at weekends though when we're home all day he's still happy to sleep for most of the day!!  We often say so much for boxers taking as much exercise as you can give them - we're still ready for more when he's worn out!!  Even when we go out over the fields for a run, when he's had enough he'll lay down in the middle of the field for a little rest!!

LOL Charanda, glad we are not the only ones loosing battles with furniture :-), i blame OH when sir jumps on the bed i get up and tell him of and he goes to his own cushion, we repeat this cycle on numerous occasions.

more often than not we wake up to find sir there and OH says 'oh hes okay leave him' then wonders why sir is always on the bed   it wouldnt be too bad if we had a king size bed and not a double. he is a cutey to cuddle (the dog that is :D )

we think he will be lazy and not want bothering, i was hoping when he is older we can have long walks and my waist line will get smaller, can dream :D

the other week he met two shar peis (sp) and they chased after him for him to turn around and run after them, he was shattered and had only been playing for a few minutes.

glad i'm not the only one with energetic dogs ;-)

I think keeping Glazby off the sofa would be an impossible feat - its right under the window in the living room and being the nosey tyke that he is - he is constantly jumping up on the sofa to check whats going on outside (just incase there are any cats brave enough to come near!!).

Bed-wise we would be happy with him sleeping in the bedroom with us if he didn't make so much noise!!  I've never, in all my life met a dog that manages to breath and sigh so loudly!!

He'll heavy breath up to the point that you think your going mad then it will stop and you think - aah, he's gone to sleep now but then I lay awake listening for it and then get worried as I can't hear him and then have to get up and check he's okay!!  He'll then start all over again!!

As well as the breathing and snoring and parping (I won't go there ;-) !!) he also has a habit of suddenly kicking out with all force in his sleep and I've almost had a heart attack a few times in the night to be so rudely woken up!!

We've now come up with a compromise that he sleeps on the spare bed in the spare room (yes, he now has a double bed to himself)!! but at 6am we'll let him into our room for half hour cuddles before we get up!!  :D

I'm taking him to play with another boxer hopefully when the weather clears up a bit - see how long it takes them to wear themselves out!!!  :-)

:D :D :D

your post made me giggle, had to pretend i was coughing, boss would not be too happy at me on the net.

dudley has kicked out and twitched in his sleep, i ended up with a foot in my face

last week we had new radiators and water pipes fitted so carpets and floor boards were up for 2 days, dudley had to go to kennels, he was so happy and pulled to get there.....i was suffering from separation anxiety.....anyhow on the sat nite i went to bed first followed by dudley and he must have missed me as he cuddled so tightly he hurt my chest and insisited on pressing his face to my chin :-)   OH came up later and saw me cuddling sir and was a sweety and went to the second bedroom........

at the moment its like having a sheep as he has to follow where ever you go and does not take too kindly to being excluded from the bathroom, he does a deep sigh and sulks.

the breaking wind :D is funny as quite a few times he has done a noisy one and turned round to look at his bum and then when they are smelly he gives you a dirty look and walks of in disgust,

so far we are winning the sofa battle, though he keeps trying, he knows what off means, he has his own pouffee (sp) :-)

must admit he doesnt really snore and his breathing is quite quiet, no doubt this will change as he gets older.

good luck :D in meeting the other boxer, when he was 5 mths old we took him to meet a friends 2 year old boxer boy, they never stopped charging round the house.  we were there for a few hours and we felt exhausted just from watching

Bradley (boxer) 9months would bang his paw on the stairs about 9.30pm to go to bed.  He usually went up first (t0 early for me).  He then would sleep until 6am when I would try to get him up for his 1hr walk. I used to get him as far as the hallway and he would curl up into a tiny ball so I could not get his collar on. I would then open the front door and push him all curled up to the front door. In most cases I walked bymyself to come home and find him still curled up asleep where Id left him.  If he was semi awake he used to hide under the bed.  Sleep and breakfast where the most important things to Bradley in the morning.
I wonder how he is coping with his new mums busy training schedule.

oh bless, its when their faces are all squashed up and they look grumpy as h*ll.

in a morning we take it in turns to go for walkies, and if sir is on the bed and you get up and dressed and say "walkies" in a daft voice he lifts his head up and looks at you and then stretches out and flops back down again.

once he realises you were serious he follows you downstairs and then perks up when outside. usually outside we pay attention to old people, leaves, bikes, imaginary fluff and bounce

bradley obviously likes his sleep. :-)

its maybe a combination of power walking and weight training rolled into one, with bradley asleep on her shoulders :D :D

When I managed to get him up and out he was like a hormonal teenager. I used to throw a ball and he would slomp off inthe opposite direction and sit down.  So I would run after the ball with him racing up behind me. Then we would have the legendary, lets trip mum up so I can lay on her and give her a big kiss and then I can go to sleep. How I miss laying in the middle of a frosty field covered in mud with 28kilos lying on top of me. Mind you I also miss sharing my sofa with him.
Occasionally he would climb into the bath with me,  which was a messy wet affair. But he did sit down the plug end, looking very proud of himself. He also stole openned bottles of beer,  I thought I was going senile until I saw him waltzing off with a bottle of bud.

:D

we weighed sir last week and he is 28 kilos, not delicate.

in attempting to improve the recall i would hold a bright tennis ball make him sit and wait and walk away then call him, he would come and launch himself with both feet and each time i would be bent over and end up with bruises

cant imagine a boxer in the bath with you  thankfully he has not tried that, he just drinks the water and licks foam of you.

he better not pinch my bud, he did once lick an empty lager can my dad had left on a coffee table, it was moved sharpish.

lol - they do keep us amused don't they!!  Though having said that I think they get just as much amusement out of us!!  The looks I get sometimes from Glazby - its as if he's thinking "bless her - she's only human"!!!  He likes to sit and watch me do my sit ups in the morning and can't quite grasp what I'm doing - though he does know now not to try and stand on me when I'm doing them!!

We actually went up to bed at 8pm last night as I was so fed up of being squished on the sofa - I had OH sprawled out, legs over the top of me and Glazby the other side also splayed out, head resting on OH's feet and me getting the the lovely involuntary (hmm I'm not so sure!!) leg jerks kicking me every 2 minutes!!  At least on the bed I get a bit of room too!!!
- By Charanda [de] Date 21.04.04 15:05 UTC
Emma - Glazby does that with the beer bottles, though with anything really!!  He's partial to a drop of his mum's white wine and lemondate at the moment - I spilt some the other nite and he was there like lightening!!

We used to have a problem with the sofa when me and the ex used to sit he would ensure he was inthe middle and eventually push Luis off the sofa. Then came and sit only lap for a cuddle, giving Luis the look of 'she is mine'.
Our pizza night were the best just me and him the simpsons and a bottle of beer. He loved the simpsons. Bradley generally drank what he could get his paws on.  When I took him to the pub he would sit beautifully behind a pint and a packet of pork scratching. I used to get quite drunk ordering two pints at a time and drinking them both. He used to get upset when you drank his pint.
It will be his first birthday on Friday.
Sorry last post on bradley its making me weepy,  not the done thing in the service reception surrounded by men.
- By LOOBY [gb] Date 21.04.04 15:17 UTC
emma :-(

you will have to have two pints on friday, one for you and one in honour of bradley.

you will always have those memories and the knowledge you gave bradley the best first year of his life with lots of love and laughter. :-)

I think Looby summed it up there honey - big hugs

xx

I've been looking forward to taking Glaz down the pub for a packet of crisps but he's disappointed me by turning his nose up at a packet!!  the first dog I've ever met that doesn't like crisps!!  Now MacDonalds is another matter altogether - he can swallow a double cheeseburger whole!!!

Bradleys new mummy has emailed photos of him to my mum she says he looks fantastic.  Ille see if she will email you.  He did a 21 mile walk on sunday bless him.  He looks tremedously spoilt.
I am one happy Emma.

Kirra tends to get sleepy around 10:30pm or so.  If someone initates activity she is all for it.  If you touch her leash, she will go from sound asleep to hyper in the blink of an eye.
In the mornings, My alarm goes off at 8 and she comes and curls by my chest for a morning snuggle.  We finally roll out of bed at 8:20 or so.  She goes outside and I go about my morning routine.  When she has had enough, she barks once and I let her back in.  Then she will go downstairs and eat her breakfast.  Then, when I leave at 8:45, I have to get her up, cause she will be sleeping, and take her into by BF's room where she sleeps contently until he gets up at noon.
She plays fast and once she is tired, she falls asleep fast.  If she is tired enough, there will be no getting her up.  I can say her name, or rustle her favorite treats, and get nothing.  In fact there was one time I tried to get her up and she was so sound asleep, she tried to bite me in her sleep.  She growled a little and snapped, but never opened her eyes.
I wish I could fall that asleep that fast.
