(i have give up trying to login so have come in as guest!!) Anyway this morning i was at the local park with my little 8 month springer, when i met up with the owner of a beautiful 13 month samoyed who i had met before. She said that tomorrow he would be 'going in the paper' for a new owner as he was too much for her two elderly dogs to cope with. I really, really wanted him and she really wanted me to take him (free) because she new i would look after him and he and my little 'un adore each other. I initially agreed, and she was so happy as was her son who was also there. But then my better judgement kicked in and i realised that i couldn't do this as amongst other things i am living on my own, in the middle of looking for a new job and rent my home not to mention the effect it would have on my own little dog. All in all suddenly being responsible for a huge, active dog would not be a good idea. but i feel so so bad.  His owner said she will only let him go to a loving home but i feel like i got her hopes up (and mine) and just want to cry. we were both nearly in tears and although i know i have made the right decision i feel rotten.

Hellooo

If you are anything like me you would love to take in all the dogs you could but, you have to be practical, i have not owned a samoyed but have friends who have 2, they seem very active and need alot of looking after, with that lovely coat, i also know that if a springer spaniel is anything like my cocker, they too need alot of care and are very lively, i think you made the right decision as and have been realistic, it is difficult when you are looking for work too, i am sure there will be someone out there who will be only too happy to take care of the samoyed and someone might respond here about it.  Dont fret just enjoy your own little baby :-p

Don't feel bad about it - you did the sensible thing. Next time tho', ask why they don't return the dog to their breeder. Just remember, you can't take in every waif & stray!

Please, next time you see her get her to contact Samoyed rescue. They're the best people to ensure that he goes to a home that can cope with him. number can be found through the Samoyed breed club.

You sound so much like me,you let your heart go before your brain has a chance to catch up :p
There are so many neglected dogs i would love to take in but there is no room for them here, plus most neglected dogs come with their own unique sets of problems! One day when i win the x-lotto i will take them all in :D
I will hire a groomer,dog phsycologist,personal trainer,personal doggie chef,the list goes on and on.
Yes you did make the right decision in the end,you followed your gut feeling which is usually correct!
I'm sure she will find a nice home for the poor baby.

<<although i know i have made the right decision i feel rotten>>

Better to realise that it wouldnt work now than having to rehome him again in the future
You did the right thing and you know it deep down for you, your dog and the Samoyed :)

Oh man.....if I was in the UK, I would have adopted him!  I am already an owner of a Samoyed and Malamute.  They are brilliant dogs but they do require a lot of time for grooming.  I just groomed Nanuk yesterday and pulled out 2 shopping bags worth of Sammy fluff!  As one of the other posts say's, if you do see her again, she should contact the Samoyed rescue.  It's very easy to say yes on impulse and then regret your decision.  You did do the right thing.  Samoyeds can be very very vocal, hyperactive and so on, so you have to be prepared for things like that.
