At long last she has done it. I've tried numerous things to get my year old dalmatian to jump into the car and she just refused. I was determined not to give up as I knew she was capable, I've seen her jump higher than into the boot of the car (hatchback) Anyway, I took her to the park as usual in the car, took her for a walk, came back to the car and I had an overturned large plastic box (approx half the height she had to jump and placed it infront of the boot. We did it slowly in steps, i.e. on the box first,(gave her some chicken) then front paws on the car(gave her some chicken) and every stage she got chicken then a game of football in the car park. After about 6 games of football later & approx half a chicken, and getting her to jump in with a little shove on the backside we had a final game of football walked to the car and she ignored the box and dived into the car. I was so ecstatic, couldn't believe it. It's as if she thought "Oh, is that what you have been trying to get me to do." Its been two days now since she first did it and what a difference its made, I don't have to pick her up when muddy and it's taken the strain off my back.
If at first you don't suceed think in tiny steps.
