Presumably you mean West Highland White puppies? No reputable breeder will sell you 2 puppies at the same time. Far more sensible to buy one, train it & then get a puppy at 18mths - 2yrs.  You cannot train 2 puppies together!! Contact one of the breed clubs listed at the bottom of the page here for names of breeders.

Hi  ....I have heard of 2 puppies being sold together...from KC breeders.  I do understand the concern, but would have to disagree.  I think 2 puppies as also kittens have a very strong bond within a litter...and you can spot pairs of puppies or kittens that get on famously...very often more so than the rest of a litter.

So long as the event is well planned for, I think its a nice idea.  My Airedales 2 brothers were homed together (KC registered), and I hear they have had a fantastic time growing up together!!  If anything I would have thought it would be more company for them, easier for them to have a family member with them when settling into a new environment and also, someone else to exhaust the other!!

Best of luck!!!

Exactly - they have a very strong bond. Most owners want their dog to bond with them, not their litter mate. Training is a nightmare, you cannot train 2 together so you have to have unlimited time and patience. It's not impossible, but certainly not something I would recommend for the novice or the averagely busy person. One of the owners of my last litter was tempted to have 2 - I told her to come back when she'd had hers for a couple of weeks. 2 weeks later she said I was right & she was SO glad she hadn't had 2 because she couldn't have coped.
Plus, 2 puppies may get on famously but as adults the same 2 (especially same sex) may not be able to tolerate each other.

Yep

Ive got three dogs here... one aged nearly 2, one aged nearly 4 and one is 9.

Ive had pups, and adult dogs, and there is NO WAY id have two puppies together, and im home all day!

I know a few people who have dogs that are very strongly bonded, and although it sounds like 'a nice idea' in reality its a right royal pain in the ass.

Cats are entirely different, they arent going to be trained, and you are not legally responsible for their actions, with a dog you ARE, so you do have to be able to train them, and the fact taht they are little dogs is irrelevant, a Westie is every bit a DOG as a Rottie or a Newfoundland. (give me either of those over a pair of westies any day)...

Westies may look cute, but they are a terrier, not a lap dog, and are a strong willed determined character, people struggle to train terriers as it is, but two at once ....... noooooo.

Get one, and then when its trained and mature, at 18 months, 2 years old then th ink about getting another, preferably of the opposite sex.

Please reconsider getting two puppies together - especially 2 bitches - have you ever seen two bitches fighting???  I have - and it's not a pretty sight - and bear in mind that while litter sisters *may* bond - they can also take an intense dislike to one another precisely because they are so much alike - and terriers are the worst for this.   Also remember that if you have two dogs of any age together, they need to be independant of each other, as only in the very saddest of circumstances will they leave you at the same time - a grieving owner with a grieving dog is very very sad, as neither can help the other :(

Don't do it, two litter sisters are a nightmare. I bred my first litter last year, and only two puppies were born. Both were bitches, and I couldn't part with either of them. Their first year has been extremely hard work, they have squabbled alot of the time, and I could barely take my eyes off them for fear of a full blown fight developing. Thankfully I have avoided that but some of these disagreements have been pretty near. When they were born, I was befriended by another Champdogger whose first litter was born within a few days of mine, she also kept two bitches. We e-mail eachother with updates from time to time, and she has had to rehome one of hers due to the same kind of thing.

You see, I have discovered that with two the same age, there is no natural heirarchy, so they vie for top dog position, and neither will give in. It's different with one pup and an older dog, the pup accepts the older one as boss without any challenge.
