Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / trouble at feeding time

my great dane puppy 4-5 months is not too well behaved, i have arranged for training classes and start on wed, the trainer thinks i might need a home session as i also have another old dog and i have to feed them in seperate rooms, the pup gets angry if the old dog goes near her food, and tonight she actualy got pretty aggresive when i came home from work as the old dog came over to greet me first, i have been trying to train her but she just does not listen to me, do you think i would benifit from a home session??

Yes, I think group classes are a must....great for the very necessary socialization. But with the behavior problems you're mentioning and your not understanding what to do, perhaps the in home class would benefit you. The trainer could watch how you interact with your dogs and perhaps see that you're not setting boundaries clearly enough or perhaps something else that she/he will observe. You could do some of these and see how it goes. You'll probably get a feeling as to how helpful this is.

Good luck.

I have had dogs before but must have been lucky as they were no problem, i know i have caused the problem this time as i have spoild(spelling?) the pup, i think a home visit would help as you are right i am not sure if i am dealing with the situation correctly, infact i know i am not i want my pup to be firendly, which she is but she does get annoyd if she does not get her own way not with me but with my old dog.  just wait within the five weeks she will be wonderfull!!!!!!  :-D

(spoiled) LOL.

I can't wait to see what you find out and how things progress in the five weeks. I bet you'll be pleased as punch. The trainer may (if it's a good one) really give you some objective insight.

I'm confused as well Stacey, I thought Deedee had returned the puppy.

Deedee has two dogs an older one & a dane puppy & she vought another dane puppy but returned that one due to it's legs not being right At least I think that is what has happened this puppy is 5 months & I think the returned one was 9 months old bought as a companion for the younger puppy

Ok now Im confussed.  So there is three dogs one older one at 9 months and the other at 5 months.  The 9 month old has been returned due to medical problems. Is that right!

Going back through previous posts I think so but then I am frequently wrong too;)

Often a fresh pair of eyes can really help spotting & sorting out problems,so i think a home visit would be a good idea.
