I have had a problem for the last few years, I dont know why or where it came from, but its very hard to deal with at times. I have a serious phobia towards SLUGS ! i know that may sound crazy..what could a slug do? But for some reason, just the sight of one will throw me into this huge panick attack. I have even gotten to the point of goin into convulsions, crying, shaking, sometimes even vomiting. Is there anyone out there that could possibly help me with my problem...Im 21 years old and I cant even go outside half the time when its wet because I know they are there. Even when I do leave the house Im constently looking around making sure there are none in sight. Please Help..Im in desperate need.

I think maybe you need to see your doctor who may be able to offer you advice regards your phobia - he may be able to get an appointment with a counsellor :)

My mother's like that with frogs.  Most phobias have an obvious starting point and people will tell you they don't know why they're scared but then tell you a story of 'The only thing I can think is ......'  I agree with Lel - talk to someone who knows what they're doing i.e. not me :)

Hi

It doesn't sound crazy at all I can't say as i am particularly fond of them, I like Joes mum have a phobia of frogs.  This causes me to have the same sort of things as yourself (panic attacks, vomiting etc)  I need to take my own advice but you should see someone.

Michelle :)

My daughter had a phobia about school (seriously) she never went for 2 years. If it's affecting your daily life you need help, your g.p. would seem the obvious choice. There are plenty of people who can help, I got in touch with the phobic society for my daughter and I registered (approx £10) and they can arrange cut price hypnotism, psychiatrists, helplines, leaflets etc. etc.
Even if you can talk to someone with the same phobia can help.
Good luck and if you hit a barrier (i.e. unsympathetic g.p.) keep trying, you will get there in the end. Keep us informed.

Phudgens - It's not just you - I'm the same - although it sounds as though you have it a bit worse. If I see them I feel ill and if I touch one (even with gloves on) I throw up. I stepped on one last Autumn (with shoes on) but I could swear I could still feel it three hours later.

People laugh because they can't move very quick but I'm sure they can when you're not looking.

I know I haven't helped much but at least you know you are not the only one - they are the horriblest things on Earth I'd rather tackle spiders, crocodiles or anything.

Your not the only one to have a phobia like that.  I'm the same with wasps - I've been known to run out of client meetings if a wasp happens to fly in through a window, I've screamed in the office embarrassing myself infront of my work colleages, I've almost got run over by dodging out of the way of one - causing cars to emergency stop.  I've got off of trains and buses at the wrong stations just to get away from them and would never dare get close enough to kill one!!

Hi

Go to one of the National Trust shops, I don't know if they all stock the same books but he one I went to recently had one called something like "101 Ways to Kill A Slug"

If you know this many ways to get rid of them it may help overcome your phobia?

I've read that - "go into your garden and select 20 slugs...peg them on the washing line and watch the little critters swing and dry out in the breeze" :D :D :D

I was almost sick this morning at work when I realised I'd stood on a slug. I only noticed it when I went to pick up 'a piece of something' to put in the bin - it was a dead slug - yuck :o

LOL. I threw some salt at a slug and it sizzled I felt rotten afterwards - well a bit rotten :) :p

I have a fear of spiders and wasps - I feel so embarrassed afterwards but if I see a spider, or a wasp coming near me, I will scream and run - no matter where I am - god and I am old enough to know better!!

Gina :p :p

Many happy memories I have of me and my Mum doing the Early Evening Slug Patrol in the garden as a little girl.  Her with the big container of salt and me with the little one from the kitchen table!!

I thought something was unusual this morning when I spotted a large pile of dog poo on the patio.  It's not like my two to do it there.  Further investigation revealed a large pile of slugs mounded on top of each other.  Yuk!
