Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Poo Mountain!!!

Still feeding Wafcol to our sensitive stomached Cocker (as per recent posts), but his 'output' has increased to a minimum of seven full portions a day!! Is anyone else feeding Wafcol Salmon & Potato, and if so, does it have the same effect? Our Lab's still on Burns, and is producing an insignificant contribution to the mountain! At this rate, we'll need to contact the Council and ask for extra bins in the park!

I am experimenting at present with foods because my girl doesn't seem to be putting any body on. She was on Burns, output was fine but fairly large & soft compared to our older bitch. So put her on Fromm Adult Gold for 3weeks, output big and yellow!!! This week I am trying Nature Diet, wow what a difference, poos small and firm and only one or two per day, if she starts to gain weight then I will stick with this. Maybe this would work for you?

Do I understand you to mean that your dog can't have Burns because it is causing a stomach problem?

Yes - we changed from Autarky because both dog's coats started to lose shine and their condition generally wasn't as good as it had been before Autarky 'improved' their recipe. Burns was recommended so we changed both dogs to their Chicken & Rice. Our Lab was (and still is) fine on Burns, but Alfie, our Cocker Spaniel suffered from very loose motions and diarrhoea continuously. Our vet recommended egg & Rice to bind him up, but the rice continued to pass through undigested, so she now thinks he has an intolerance to rice, so recommended Wafcol Salmon & Potato because it is hypoallergenic and does not contain any rice. The only confusion is that his digestion was ok on Autarky, which does contain rice! The Wafcol seems fine, but motion volumes are up dramatically, as is the price.

Think all the swaping about is causing most of the trouble, put him back on the food he was OK on, do it over about 10 days and then leave it alone for at least 6 weeks.

As Jackie says,I would put him back on Autarky and when settled maybe add a little oil for his coat or maybe oily fish once a week.

Thanks for the advice, will buy some Autarky this afternoon, and let you know how it goes. Fingers crossed!
