Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / rottweiler going grey
- By Guest [gb] Date 16.04.04 00:46 UTC
My rottweiler has developed a lot of grey hairs more or less overnight, since i put her and my other dogs back outside in their kennels which they were in last summer, after having them indoors for the winter.Within a week she had developed these hairs (quite a few) on hear face/head and i thought maybe it was a stress thing although she appears happy along with the others and has an active life and she was fine last summer.I have rung my vet as i also thought it could be medical but he said that dogs age diferently like us and some go grey and some dont but she is only 51/2.Has anyone any ideas as to why this has happend, thanks.

I'm sure it's like your vet said....age and they all age differently and different signs may show up at various times. Don't worry about it. You should see my Chocolate Lab. She's very grey all over her face. Of course, she's almost 13, but I forget exactly when I started noticing the grey coming in....maybe around 7.

My 5 year old's nose is changing from black to grey, think it is normal in a dark haired dog.

I find the each time my older dogs moult, when the new hairs come through there is more grey - I think this is why it seems to happen almost overnight.

Some dogs, like humans, go grey early.

Some Rottweilers do go grey earlier than others and I have experienced some of mine going grey at around 6 years of age and then others a lot older than that.

I have found dogs start going grey over night!  At 5 then I would put it down to old age, some dogs go grey as earliy as this, some as late as 8 or 9!

my rotti never had a grey hair on him ~ he died aged 9 & was as black as the day he was born.

my liver FCR has just turned 4 & she's had a grey chin for months!

like us ~ they're all different. My mate is as grey as a badger & is only in his 30's. My Mother in law hasn't got a grey hair & she's ** years old! :o
