Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / season after litter

Prior to having her litter (now 9weeks old) my bitch had very irregular and frequent seasons sometimes coming into season at 4 monthly intervals - does any one know if she is likely to repeat this pattern or if having the litter will regulate her seasons to a more 'normal' frequency - if not I'll have to start swabbing her from now as I have an entire young dog in the house and certainly don't want her to be 'caught' accidently !

I'd start swabbing her, just in case;) It didn't make any difference at all with my bitches - who have come into season at anytime between 31 weeks(great :D ) to 17weeks (not so great :( ) I have to keep a close eye on Chloe as I have her son and DON'T want him getting too interested, though it is beginning to look as though she is now sterile anyway. (2 seasons - 2 matings - no pups :( )

Thanks Lindy

Don't be too sure that your bitch is sterlie though - Lola became pregnant at the 3rd attempt and went on to have 9 puppies !! - think that her erratic seasons meant that her fertile period was also a bit out too so we kept missing it because we were going with the 'usual' mating pattern. This time  we just let the dog run with her for most of her season and he mated her throughout ( quite a short season of 2 weeks) - good luck if you decide to try again !

I've decided to have her speyed. I've also 'booked' a puppy for next year - so long as there is something I like. :D
