Case Report

A dog has miraculously survived after being thrown from a car on to a busy Walsall street, where it was hit by at least two vehicles. The Staffordshire bull terrier was badly injured in Lime Lane, Pelsall.

Horrified passers-by came to its rescue shortly after 9.30pm yesterday.
One woman, who went into the middle of the road to stop other vehicles hitting the black-and-white dog, said that those who released the animal were clearly trying to get it killed.

The woman, who didn't want to be named, said the dog appeared to have been thrown out of a small blue-ish hatchback.

"They kicked the dog out, and as soon as they left, the first car that came past hit it," she said. "Whoever dumped it would have seen what happened through their rear-view mirror.

"You can drive at 70mph on that road and a lot of people do."

Staff at E C Straiton & Partners Vets, in Penkridge, today managed to stabilise the dog's condition, but said it was too early to operate on the injured animal.

Judith Haw, of the RSPCA, said although the animal charity had been informed of the incident, animal protection officers desperately needed to hear from witnesses.

"If anyone's got any information please contact us on 08705 555999," she said.

Vet Andy Morris said: "This is one of the worst cases of dog cruelty that I have ever seen."

Isn't it disgusting what people do.
I'd like to see the same thing done to the perpurtrators. :(
- By heidleberg [gb] Date 17.04.04 10:27 UTC
Why do people do this sort of thing, if they dont want the dog all they have to do is either take it back to the breeder or take it to a dog rescue RSPCA etc, this sort of thing just makes me cry for the poor mite, theres no need for it what so ever

I so hope they catch the people that did this horrific thing.

- By heidleberg [gb] Date 17.04.04 12:02 UTC

There is a chance the dog is stolen, or even the car was stolen with the dog in it and they just wanted rid of him.  This happened right by where I work.  I'm told the dog will recover ok from his injuries.
Dawn.

This dog is  Entire Male Predominately White (few dark patches), 5-6 years old, very friendly, no microchip.

so if anyone does know of a missing/stolen dog answering this description ???
- By jazzi [gb] Date 17.04.04 13:22 UTC
I have searched doglost, petsearch, lurchersearch, lostdogs, internet lost n found sites.  I did find two that were a possible match but the colourings/markings are different.

Still waiting to hear an update from vets as to whether the dog would make it through surgery.
Lel or myself will keep you all updated.

Police have no further information on the vehicle involved.  No one has reported a vehicle matching the description as stolen.

Oh this is so horrible. And what makes me feel worse for this poor dog is that I cannot make a donation to him. I am only 16 years old and live in the United States. So if any of you possible could, please send my love to this dog for me. *sends many hugs to the poor pup* Good luck to him!
- By heidleberg [gb] Date 17.04.04 17:33 UTC
I will send a cheque, hope Teddy makes a full recovery, and i also hope the police find out who the culprits are.

Thanks everyone for your kindness and generousity :)
People are trying to negotiate with the vet as to how much the treatment will cost but there have been quite a few offers of help. We just need to keep a track of how much has been sent off towards Teddys treatment so if anyone who has donated can you just PM me with a rough figure for accountability reasons ???
Many thanks :)
- By liberty Date 18.04.04 13:39 UTC
Lel, have PM'd you.

Hi Lel.
This isnt the only site with people donating for his appeal.  Peoples generosity is overwhelming, I'm sure Teddy will be well provided for.
Dawn.
- By liberty Date 18.04.04 21:26 UTC
I'm sure Teddy, and the Vet's don't care where the money comes from, as long as he can be treated, and let's hope make a good recovery :)
If I'm not mistaken, there where people from different sites which have been listed already, who have donated to help Ted. :)

Great news for Ted, after xrays yesterday we are please to announce he doesnt have a fractured pelvis after all.....just very badly sprained.  Teds eye has not been lost, but damaged and he may lose his sight but the actual eye can be seen now.  And the other bit of rather good news, his owners have come forward, they are distraught as they dont have the money to foot the bill.  Now Adogsife has come to an agreement with the vets treating Ted, they have agreed that they will only charge £150 they have waivered their consulting fees etc.

The 3 main sponsors were Jayne Hayes from Doglost, Adogslife and Parkin (SBT Lover) we are arranging that these 3 will cover of £150.

No further donations will be required.  If you have been unfortunate enough to have forwarded your cheque already please pm me with the details as I can tell the vets not to cash it and then you can cancel it.

I am truly amazed at the amount of kindness and generosity that has been shown by members here and rescue boards.  In less than 48 hours we had pledges totalling £715.

Well done to you all!!!!! Youre amazing!
- By mason [gb] Date 19.04.04 08:27 UTC
My cheque has already gone, but I would like the money to go to charity please, I am sure there are many more worthy dogs in need of help. Please ask them to forward my money to any needy cause on Teds behalf :)

We have a bit of a predicament now.....crossposted from another forum.

QUOTE

Spoke to Vets today. It seems the person who claims to be the owner of the dog is unable to prove it is hers and there is an investigation by the RSPCA.The dog is still at the vets and could well be passed on to the RSPCA along with the donations received from our crowd and the public, who sent in money to cover the vets bill. After the £150 for treatment has been deducted there is still a balance of £550, the partners at the practise will decide where it will be distributed.
When I realised that my donation could probably end up in RSPCA coffers I immediately asked the receptionist to destroy my cheque.
It is up to all of you to decide your own course of action, frankly after the paltry initial donation by the RSPCA of £50 there is no way they will make money out of me.

UNQUOTE

Anyone wishing to withdraw their payment needs to call the vets direct on 01785 712235
- By heidleberg [gb] Date 21.04.04 11:44 UTC
Hi Jazzi,
I have just phoned the vets they told me the name of the dog is Tyson, he still needs treatment, looks like his eye is going to be removed,
They told me that if there is donation money left over from Tysons treatment it will be sent back to the people that donated it, they are not allowed to give the money to the RSPCA unless the person that donated it tells them so,
hope this helps.

Best wishes Heidi
- By liberty Date 21.04.04 22:40 UTC
Been away for a couple of days, and just caught up with this post. My cheque has been posted too, don't mind who benefits, as long as it's NOT the RSPCA, so that's good news Heidi.
Glad to hear that Ted/Tyson is doing well :)
