What sort of work are the staff involved in ? And whats the course so we have a better idea?
Would you need to include things like contact numbers for various people - fire assembly points - no smoking policies etc? Information with regard to the company they work for ( history and benefits they may get as an employee)
health and safety issues etc etc
it is not actually a nursery 9i have to say pretend for want of a better word) that i own a nursery
special needs classroom assistant with childcare

Gina,
As Lel said plus what to do 'if'. What if a kid gets injured? What if a child protection issue is raised? What is the discipline procedure? Think of everything that could go wrong them list what people are expected to do.

also include things like -
what if a child needs medication ( asthma etc) - what procedures are there? Who to contact if the child hurts themselves . What if the child is aggressive/violent etc. What do you do ( especially as there are assault possibilities if you touch the child)
Grievance procedures and appeal procedures for the teacher/carer
Also a biggy to mention is stress awareness - what the employee should do if they begin to feel stressed - who they should report it to etc. Especially in an occupation like this. HSE is very big on this at the mo
Also policies in place for situations like handling disabled children ( may be cause for concern with manual handling issues) etc
Hope thats given you some ideas at least :)

As said a bit longwinded however you can take out whatever isn't applicable. HTH
Health and Safety is my 'thang', let me know if you need any help with this section! Make sure you don't leave it out - H&S is a big thing now, and the tutor will be looking for this to be included I'm sure.
Oh and don't forget a first aid section, particularly as it involves work with children. I think someone has mentioned this above in a round about way.
I used to work in a h&s office in a university - the big things for us were first aid provision, fire evacuation procedures and accident reporting and procedures.
thank you everyone i am dreading starting it
just looking at my staff hand book now, (work in a college) think everyone has about covered all points. You could also put the establishment's
Mission Statement - Aims of your SEN nursery
Term dates
Duty rota
Senior management team's responsibilities
List of staff names
Child protection procedures
Procedures for accidents and sick children
Security procedures
Safeguard of personal property
Discipline procedures- pupils and staff
Bullying procedures.
Code of conduct- behaviour expectations of children
Positive behaviour policy - guidelines which all staff should follow regarding the implementation of reward/sanctions
If you need anymore let me know. Basically you will need to show that you have guidelines, policies and procedures in place for any event that may happen in your nursery so your staff have all relevant info to deal with such events. Plus all the usual stuff that general employees need to know holiday entitlement etc.
Hope you get a good mark! :-)

Jess the pest
tell me more
I am due to start my first H&S role after finishing my Nebosh certificate and half way through my diploma :)
oh wow, in that case you know more than me! My boss retired just after saying she would pay for me to do my NEBOSH and the new boss wouldn't agree to it - didn't like me knowing too much about his job! ;-)
I worked for HSE for four years, then on to the university h&s department for five years. People think I'm weird for loving h&s! I really miss it now :-(
