Any views on the use of radio dog fences?  We have 60 acres which to fence traditionally will be extremely expensive and just wondered if these radio fences are good, bad or indifferent?

Is this a euphemism for electric fencing?

When you dog approaches the boundary he will hear a warning beep and if he doesn't return he receives a static correction (which is not harmful)

Fences where the dog wears a collar have been known to malfunction causing injury and have other disadvantages.

I would never use shock tactics at all but if you really are determined to use an electric fence, consider the sort where the animal doesn't wear a collar but instead gets a shock direct from the fence, that way there is less chance of injury.

Bad! I have only known two people who used them - both dogs got run over.  They chased something out and could not get back.

That's what would worry me :( Dog hyped up might ignore pulse or whatever once calm could be stuck. Also could a dog not get into a lot of mischief within 60 acres?
