For about 4 months now I have had a dry sore rash on neck, face and scalp. The neck has responded to betnovate and hydrocortisone. It is dry and dandruffy but if I get hot it seems to weep and scab.
The hair is another issue. I have used several shampoos and stuff off Doctor and now using Cocois oil. I have always had 'big hair' and now it is all coming out and getting really thin in parts. Won't be long before there are bald bits!!. The Dr is not sure exactly what it is and is sending me to a skin specialist but I still have about another 7 weeks to wait. Definitely need a wig by then :(
I looked on some website and it sounds a bit like an eczema thing or psoriasis. Never suffered with either before.I have also got some similar dry patches on palm of hands but nowhere else.Has anyone else suffered something like this. Will my hair come back, i am having to put a different style to cover it up! Its red but is even going really light now.
thanks Sue

It sounds like a fungal infection - I found this great site the other day - HTH http://www.dermnetnz.org/index.html

My sister suffered from psoriasis for years, so I know what you're going through, it's horrible. It still flares up at times and her scalp is never perfect, I know that she used a special shampoo, which helped loads. Try this site http://www.allergymatters.com/acatalog/Scalp_Psoriasis_hair_care__shampoos__tonics____.html (can't do links) for some shampoos that might help.

Sounds like sebbhoaric (sp) dermatitis to me which is what I suffer from. Have you tried using Neutragena T Gel formula for this? It also helps if you try and remove all sugar from your diet for a while, preferably also anything that contains yeast (unfortunately this includes alcohol etc) sounds diabolical but you should then be able to stabilise it and go back to eating normally, :D The condition can be exacerbated by stress. I had it all in my scalp, down my neck and back as well as on my face during a particular patch.
Cortisone creams help but unfortunately do thin the skin with prolonged use. I found iccthamol cream worked quite well.

sorry tried to do link for you but couldnt for some reason,
i dont suffer as bad as you but i do get a very dry scalp, as tohme said Neutragena t gel is good,
hope it gets better soon.

a friend of mine had bad psoriosis in her her..she used to put mayonaise in it (im honestly not joking!) I think she put it on like a conditioning treatment for a couple of hours or so as it helped calm down the redness and helped with the flakes..maybe also try relaxing more I have bad excema which flares up when I am stressy...yoga or massage might help..?

Thanks for such prompt help.I have had a quick look at the links and have bookmarked them to read at length later on.
I realise stress can make matters worse,, but I was not stressed until all my hair started to come out.
I have tried a neutrogena shampoo but not the T gel one. I will get some when I am out shopping. I don't take much sugar in diet but do like glass or 2 of wine at night. Perhaps now is the time to go on a diet. What else should I cut out, food wise?
Sue
i tend to get dry skin so i take evening primrose and cod liver oil tablets and find they help

Seb Dermatitis can be the symptom of a fungal (yeast) overgrowth, it is not a fungal infection itself. The use of both Nizoral and Neutragena T-Gel shampoos are recommended for use with seb dermatitis.
Basically you need to go on the Stone Age diet :D No breads or anything similar that contain yeast (Soad bread would be ok), biscuits, processed foods, marmite etc cheese and dairy products are best avoided too.
Basically meats, fish, fruits (careful of sugar content) vegetables etc (weight loss and increased energy levels are a good side effect). I would also recommend a digestive enzyme complex and multi-source probiotics both available from your health store. The vegs etc that you are eating will then provide food for the probiotics to multiply and repopulate your gut with good bacteria and starve the yeasts.
Sounds a bit drastic but it does not have to go on forever, I would give it at least a month.

Thats depressing, doesn't seem like i've got much going for me:( :(
Polytar liquid is very good, available from larger chemists and boots, it also gives a very good shine to the hair.

I suffer with bad eczema. When it go so bad and nothing was working I went to a Chinese herballist and although the tea drink I had to make was disgusting it sorted me out. I was also told to avoid red met, alcohol, dairy and strangely tomotaoes as these have an heating effect which can be bad for eczema. It does depend on which type you have though - mine is exaccerbated by heat (usually get small blisters which burst and intense itching and burning sensation). I would recommend this route if nothing else works. I've only had one 8 week course and it really worked, now if I have a flare up I get some of the herbal cream he gave me and control my diet better and it usually disappears in a week or so.
I hope you sort it out soon, it really knocked my confidence when it got so bad and was so visable but there is hope :)
