Hello,
I wonder if you could give me some advice, I am considering getting a Rottweiler/German Shep puppy I am tending toward a bitch, although I am still open to advice and obviously the right puppy.
I have had in the past Staffords but would like to venture away not through lack of love for Staffords but for a soft spot for Rottweiler's/German Shep's. I have over the years meet a few Rottweiler's while walking my Staff's and have always been impressed with their natures and looks, I know it is hard work but I would be ready to take on that task now.
Could you tell me the pro's and con's of Rottweiler ownership.
My other choice would be a German Shepperd I have two close friends who own such delightful dogs that they have taken my heart also.
Which breed would you consider to be suitable.
I have a 6 year old Staff Bitch who is steady and calm around people and dogs and has no problems sharing the house and me with anyone .
She does a Staffie version of agility and is a PAT dog.
I would hate to make the wrong descision at the expense of the dog I would rather know the pitfalls and highs before hand.
In conjunction with my Staff's whom I have shown but found that they enjoyed the Pat Dog life more,
I have also owned O.E.S. and English Bull Terrier both of whom, were rescue dogs and I found both delightful and rewarding. These were at the desperate end of rescue with both being in kennels for a good amount of time through no fault of their own.

Oh yes their is someone at home all day my parents live with me now and are looking forward to a puppy in their lives.
My two nieces and nephew vist regularly.
Excersise would not be a problem when grown as my better half and brother in law and brother all run daily and as well as her morning /evening 40 minute each time road walk with me every day. Plus strolls with my dad in the late morning/ afternoon, One of them will take Gyp with them on a run of a few mile at least 3 to 4 times a week.
Please could you help I would like more information on living with the breed than I can get from books.
Thanks for reading and hopefully replying.

We've been through this one not so long ago- go on then I can't find the threads you'll have to e-mail the admin to find them for you! On the other hand if you scour through all the old threads you'll probably find something yourself!:)

Dear Guest, I think you are in a great situation for taking on another dog, but just one word of warning. I have a staff also, and much prefer bitches, and am in the process of getting another staff. In my research i spoke with many staff people, judges and breeders who have had experience with the breed for over 40 years, and they have warned me not to keep 2 bitches together, of the same or of different breeds as there is a high probabilty that one day they will fight, and thereafter dislike the other. With a dog and a bitch there may be swabbles but the dog is more likely to back down than a bitch-bitch fight. I wouldn't suggest that you leave them together until you are entirely sure that they get on, but bitch-bitch should never be left alone together, not even at night. It is a possible combination but one that if it goes wrong will make life very difficult for you and yours.
