There are now TWO members of the Order of Lurch in my house now. The ever sticky ever annoying Dillers, and now, Her Supreme Pointyness, Gabby.

Rocky wants to be an Honorable Pointy, i said he can be a Dishonourable Square-Faced Hound...... he didnt know what to say so he went under the computer desk to think about it.

Anyway, back to Gabby.

She is a very orange (ok, red fawn) Saluki x Greyhound bitch, 9 years old. She is an ex worker, and is currently lying on the sofa looking rather sad.

She is a 'word of mouth' rehome, from a friend of my sisters, whom i have never met, and she was 'dumped' is the only way i can describe it, here at half 6, by her owners dad who said 'Here you go, Bye' i had to call him back to ask her name!!!!!!

I know very little about her, poor love, but at least her previous owners hung on to her until i could take her, rather than chucking her in the police station or nearest layby.

Rocky is unimpressed that she doesnt like his favourite game. I said she is a LADY and since his favourite game is 'humpy' im not suprised she told him to F off! Dill wants her to play, and is bewildered by 'Tall Dog Who Does Not Play.....cat thinks she should sit while he washes her face, She thinks that cat should run in fear as she is a supreme killer of small furries. Everyone is a bit confused!

I was wondering about changing her name, i dont like Gabby (apologies if thats anyones name, anyones aunties name, dogs name, kids name, friends name, girl down the roads name, etc) and it doesnt suit her either...... all suggestions welcome, something girly, pretty and short plz!

Anne, Jane, Sarah, Priscilla, Demi, Lucinda.....Look on the threads to do with dog names. There's a bunch. I think one thread says, "Help" And one is about an Irish Setter. You might get some ideas there, plus there are websites with names. Good luck.

I think those greyhounds and Salukis are wonderful. I bet you'll fall in love

best not read the last weeks CountryMans weekly, where brian plummer (the late) gives his impressions of anything x saluki!!!! :( :)
- By theemx [gb] Date 15.04.04 21:48 UTC
I tend not to take much notice of what Mr Plummer said anyway!

She is a lovely bitch, will be a while before ill let her off the lead, but even at 9 years old, i bet she can shift!

So far the current best name is Abby, near enough to her original name so it doesnt confuse her, but er nicer. Other suggestions i have had have been Jaffa, Lotus (its orange apparently AND its a fast car) er and a lot of silly ones, hee hee.

What about "Lady Muck"? :D :D :D (you could shorten it to Lady - or Mucky - but when she does get on her high horse - there you are Lady Muck of Midden Hall :D :D :D

Margot, Have you been to my house missus????????? i think you have been spying through my curtains, Midden Hall is very apt!

Well ive had a test run of 'bedtime', ie all dogs in my room...... gonna have to get a bigger bed i reckon! Somehow i dont think she has been allowed to kip on the bed before!

Also, so far the only 'problem' is that she doesnt really 'do' stairs, not sure if its her shape that is all wrong, her feet, as her nails are too long, or that she has just never had to do stairs before.

She is upstairs now, i dont really want to force her to come down, she will do it in her own time.... took her 15 minutes to come up!

Dil keeps showing her how easy stairs are, by zooming up and down them like a loony.

No actually - my house is Midden Hall :D :D

I vaguely attempt to keep all the dog/cat hair at bay, valiantly battling against the pawprints everywhere (tell me - how DO cats walk on vertical surfaces - I suspect that they wait til I've cleaned paintwork, then  decide who they are going to hold up to put ickle pawprints all across the tiles!!!

So far, we have succeeded (just) in keeping puppy Freya from copying Aunty Gipsy up & down stairs - not allowed  - but I think that soon, she will decide that NOOOO does not apply to her :D :D

Welcome to another recruit to the Honourable Order of Lurch ! :) She sounds a lovely girl and its uncanny as my OH and i had a run out to the local Dogs Trust where we met a Saluki X who couldve been Abys brother. I was firmly put into the car when I smiled happily with a " NO we are looking for a SMALL dog!" Pictures of Morse and Saluki galloping through the grass were quite entertaining till I thought - over the horizon without looking back!

BTW there are loads of Lurchers in the Cat n Dog Home right now, is this a seasonal thing?

Might be another Lurcher on the rehome list next week :( - unfortunately, my Uncle died over the Easter weekend, so his approx. 8 year old girl is currently of 'no fixed abode'.  Some family argy-bargy going on at the moment, but might be looking for help from Champdoggers next week to work out the best route to try and find her a new home.  I take it the Greyhound & Lurcher Rescue pages would be the best avenue? :(

What I'd like to know, Margot, is how cats levitate?  Our cat can come in through cat flap, across doormat, through hall, up carpeted stairs, across carpeted landing, across carpeted bedroom and still leave muddy pawprints all over the bed.  Does she float through the house?!?!

White bedding is NOT found in our house, only buy murky colours, preferably with a pattern!

I think ive decided on Abby, but Maddie is nice too......... mmmmmmmm

It IS the season for getting rid of lurchers..... since its NOT hunting season any more (most quarry having a season, bar rabbits but sporting persons leave them alone to breed anyway, unless they H AVE to hunt them to bring on a young dog or because their permission depends on it)........

This is the time of year taht ppl are breeding their lurchers, and buying in new ones, and getting rid  of cast offs, too old or not good enough or injured etc.

I have to say, most of the lurcher people i know wouldnt DREAM of getting rid of a nine year old dog who has worked hard for them all her life! anyway, she is here to stay now. :)

She has learned how to use the stairs, learned that furniture is for dogs to sit on, and beds are for sleeping in, and Emmas give cuddles and strokes. Oh, and now we will eat Bonios and chocolate milk (from my cocoa pops).....still dont like tripe th ough!

Not sure about the cat, he thinks she is just another dog and treats her so, she thinks he should fear her, he doesnt agree, so she is a bit bewildered!
