Had a terrible day yesterday. Got up and came down to uncover my parrot (Hobbit) and she was dead on the floor of her cage. I was devastated as she was only 7 and was totally unexpected. The thing is when its a cat or dog and you tell people they are sympathetic but when its a bird they seem to think they dont matter but I know the folks on here will understand how I feel. She was my friend and was always talking to me and making me laugh. The house seems so quiet without her. I buried her on the rockery where my cat is and said "night hob " when I covered her over like I said every night to her when I put her cover on. I still have her cage in the corner and will have to dismantle it soon. I keep forgetting and going over to talk to her. I really didnt want to go to work yesterday but I did and it did take my mind of it a bit as loads of people are off sick and so was very busy.

So sorry to hear your sad news :( Its always dreadful when you lose a pet, no matter what type of creature it is. Try and remember the happy times when hobbit made you laugh, Its hard to begin with but given time you will remember your hobbit with affection without the pain you are feeling now. :)

So sorry to hear your news, that is very young for a Parrot, what a shock for you. Hope you are feeling a tiny bit better today but they do leave a big hole and it will take ages before it heals. Sending you a big hug

So sorry to hear about your parrot,I remember my Dad being so very upset and angry when his budgie died and not many people understood. It had been bought for him as company and he taught it so many tricks it was a truly amazing bird and when it died my sister replaced it with a similar coloured one thinking it would cheer Dad up,but it could not replace 'his bird' this new one just sits in it's cage or on the curtain rail,it makes a noise (but Dad is practically deaf now anyhow) but it does none of the tricks like the other one, which is what formed the bond with my Dad.
Time will heal your loss somewhat and we all have feelings of what you are going through at this stage.

Kizzi,
I know how you feel. My bird died last year and he was only 7 too. I don't think it's 'just' a bird. I heard him eating his seed for months after he died. I thought I was going mad! Sorry about Hob. Big hug.

ohhh i lost my parrot at age 3/ she wasnt hand reaed and would only eat sunflower seeds
as this was her only food even though we'd reduced the amount and put in other foods more chilli and nuts maize and corn etc more fruit she'd just leave the rest pick out the few sunflower seeds and would rather starve
it killed her eventually as shed had to ,much fat in her diet
so sorry to hear about your loss
I'm really sorry to hear about Hobbit. Parrots are wonderful birds and if i had more time i would have one myself :) I did have cockatiels and was very upset when one died ..... took the other to an aviary where he was very happy.
Once again, i'm so sorry.

I'm sooooo sorry about hobbit sounds like she was a wonderful bird.I know people aren't that sympathetic because I lost my guinea-pig last november and I cried alot because he was such a lovely creature it's the same as my hamster I lost in febuary. When both of them died it was very upsetting times.I'm still upset now because they are buried in my garden and every time I look at the patch in which they are buried and have lots of memories come flooding into my head.So sorry.
best wishes Kirsty.

hi, sorry to hear about your parrot...mine died last year at a similar age (lung tumour) so I know how bad you feel & how quiet everything is for a while. Harry is still in the freezer ....I never did get around to finding somewhere to bury him where the hound pups wont dig him up again. :)its so quiet without a parrot that sometimes I feel like getting another one.

I'm soooooo sorry to hear about Hobbit. Parrots are like having a person/small child around and so talkative.
I know how you feel I lost my grandma's bird which I got when she passed away so it was like losing her again. I still have him in my freezer going on two years I haven't broughten myself to bury him yet. Planning on burying him at my grandma's grave, hubby is gonna make a coffin for me. Tiny was a real little character he was with my grandma through alot.
Sending hugs, never easy when you lose a loved one :( Being animal or person :(
Thanks to everyone for their kind and sympathetic words. It is so quiet here without Hob. I must get round to dismantling her cage but I cant at the moment. Maybe in a few more days. Thanks again it does help to talk to similar minded people who understand about these things.
