Hi Denise

i am in Ireland so I cannot say for sure, and can only give you an answer based on what I have read here previously.

I believe it *is* posible to show your dog in the UK after he's been neutered but I think you have to inform the Kennel Club, in writing, that your dog has had this surgical procedure.

Of course you can also show him in companion shows

Don't worry about being new ;) everyone has been new once, and this is the perfect place to ask (although maybe you could have posted this in the *showing* forum ;) )

Hope this helps

Caroline

You just have to tell the KC that the dog is neutered and they will send you a letter giving permission to show. But if you do it before he is fully mature (depends on breed) he may not become good enough to show. Let us know what breed and why you need to castrate him.

he is a bichon friese and he will be getting the op when he is 6months old.
we have a yorkie who was not being looked after properly and we were asked to give it a home last year and gypsy is a bitch and is to old to be done i just don,t think its fair that she should have to go through this the vet says she is at least 10.
to be honest i,ll probally not show him anyway as i got him for a pet and family reasons i,d probally enjoy the training classes though.
it will give me a hobbie or interest.

If you want a hobby or an interest why not try obedience or agility?
I'm sure they have 'mini' classes in agility.
It also doesn't matter if they are neutered or not!
I think you have to wait to train/compete in agility until the dog is old enough
as their bones are still 'soft' as a puppy etc.
But a good reputable agility club should be able to tell you when they are
able to train.

I used to do mini agility with my Bichon, he loved it :)

I wouldnt get him neutered unless you absolutely have to though, mine was done when he was 10 for medical reasons and all the other dogs treated him like a girl and he put on weight it wasnt nice for him for quite a while.  I dont know much about bitches but at 10 does she still have seasons ? if so is there any way you can separate them ?

Don't know about your breed but you may have trouble with his coat if he is castrated, which may mean the show ring will be out, you can do other sports with him though,  wont go into all the possible side effects but, as mentioned, feminisation syndrome is one of them, not to bad if you don't have other males in the house but bitches may lead him a hell of a life.
