I had this virus yesterday, but luckily a stinger got rid before any damage was done!! Have you sorted it??

I am not sure Hearn, It is saying it is now in the AVG Virus Vault, but will that protect me or not?

Sorry for appearing so dumb, but not a clue when it comes to this sort of thing.

You appear dumb sis - never ;)
Hope you've sorted it and it hasn't manged to crack the code to your secret wine vault!

If it's in the virus vault it's safe & you don't have to do anything more. :)

Your software has captured the little critter, now you can delete it from the vault.

I run Norton Antivirus and any viruses that are detected are 'quarantined' and I can look in a folder called reports, then quarantined items and I can delete them - first checking that they have done no damage.

How would I know if it has done any damage?
- By Jax [gb] Date 14.04.04 10:18 UTC
In addition to quarantined files, Quarantine stores two other groups of items:
Backup Items
Norton AntiVirus is preset to make a backup copy of a file before attempting a repair. After the repaired file is verified, you can delete the infected backup copy from Quarantine.
Items Submitted To Symantec Security Response
Files sent to Symantec Security Response for analysis are isolated. After receiving the results of the analysis, you can determine what to do with the files.

I also run spybot just to be sure.  But I'm sure if it was in your vault it will be fine.

There's no way of knowing really if it's done any damage, usually AVG will remove and repair any damage done by a virus  but the main thing here is you have stopped it causing any more mischief.

If it was a trojan it's probably unlikely to have done any lasting damage to your computer as their main aim in life is to log things like your surfing habits, keystrokes, or in the worst case scenario access your password files & send information back to base.

Have a look here for more information about trojans: http://www.nohack.net/trojans.htm

I wouldn't be overly concerned about it now, but if you are still worried you could change your passwords for anything sensitive that you access from your computer.

It's just another good case for having a firewall. :)

Ooooops, yes, sorry, you did say it was a trojan horse. I have Norton Personal Firewall.

If you have Norton you can run a full system scan to check for any viruses, don't know about other anti virus ware.
