Hi
I took my 15wk springer spaniel out for a yesterday and we normally go for 20mins walk in the woods but i managed to slip over on a wet patch of grass and hurt my ankle. As a result it took nearly an hour to get home and she was tired when we got in so am worried that it may have hurt her.She is fine today and i have got a friend to take her for a 15 minute walk for the next few days but i am still worried.Just wanted to get some reassurance that i have not hurt her and is 20 mins once a day ok(the nurse at the vets said a couple of 20mins walks a day were ok but im only giving her 1 and she has plenty of time in our garden each day)
thank you

Friend using my account as she can't use her computer Im the one doing the walking of the dog for her(sister to my pup Holly):)
Hi, please dont worry too much, She just probably over exerted herself. My folks have 6 springer spaniels, all active gun dogs. The last two puppies my dad had use to run around our feilds with him and the other dogs until they decided they were tired. This has done the dogs no harm and have actually built up strong muscles which enables them to go out all day.... which they absolutely love.
To be honest, your puppy probably enjoyed it, after all it was only time this has happened so dont be too concerned. If you are still worried, pop down to the vets and ask their advice. Take Care and hope your ankle gets better. : )

Don't worry, it was a one off you won't have done any harm. I would imagine the distance was the same anyway, just took you a lot longer with your ankle.
You are doing all the right things, 20 minutes a day is fine. You will have to sit on the floor and play with her now, good excuse having a poorly ankle :)

Wether it was the same distance depends on wether the pup was on lead or off.......... A springer can travel many more times the distance a human walks, and the slower the human, the further the distance the dog will travel. I agree, she's probably just over done things, take it easy (both of you ;)) for a day or two, and don't make any plans to repeat it in the near future. Hope you are better soon.
