Hello looking for a tree, that will not get more than about 10-15ft and that grows up not out
any suggestions please? Would of course like variation of colour but size and growth more important.

Probably an upright, slow growing conifer. There are some quite pretty ones and they have leaf all the year. Silver birches are quite upright, but will get bigger than 15 ft :)

What about a hardy Japenese Acer, we've got a scarlet one and a light green one, supposed to grow to 10 or twelve feet with a spread of 8 feet

      I adore :D acers but I have 5 in the garden already, and the space is to close to the wall for an acer. I like conifers too and actually will have a look at those this weekend, but sort of fancied a bit different. But may go for a "spiral" cut conifer. 
     I know I may be asking for the impossible but hey thats what Chamdoggers are good at isn't it?

How about a Twisted Hazel? They can be confined to a pot so they dont spread too much. Weeping cherry or weeping willow, how about a Magnolia? They look fabulous and can be kept down to size. If its close to a wall how about a Clematis? Japanese Ivy to go with your 5 Acers - its got lovely scarlet autumn foliage? Upright apple/pear/fruit tree? My little girls have always wanted to grow their own fruit and seized on these container fruit trees in the sunday supplement gardening leaflets, and some self pollinate now too. Hope the range of conifers is wider than I remember, surprise me :)

We have a lovely small deciduous tree out the front, called   something liquidamber, green leaves in summer, and goes bright red/orange in the autum, bit like an Acer but slimmer with slightly different leaves, has grown from approx 5ft to 7ft in two year, max height approx 15ft

Liquidambers are so beautiful! :) but they can grow big as the years go by....

HOw about a crab apple? We planted a malus red sentinel 5 years ago and it has only grown a foot or so; it has bright red berries and beautiful pink and white flowers in April :)

We have a crab apple tree.  It is very pretty in blossom and you can make jam or jelly with the fruit if you are so inclined.

I have an Amelanchier in my garden. White flowers in spring then berries and good autumn colour. They are very pretty and can be grown as a tree or a bush.

Charliepud, Lindsay is right Liquidambers can get huge so keep it pruned if it gets too big. We have one but have quite a big garden, even so I'm keeping my eye on it.  Reading up about it on the web I've seen anything from 16ft to 150 ft

Depends on the variety, our variety says no more than approx 20 ft, and is a narrow shape (I'm moving in a couple of years though, just in case the card was wrong! :) )

The Kilimarnock Willow Tree doesn't get very big. and widen a little but not overly.
