Having owned and bred the short haired type, i approached a breeder of the longhairs, and was told they wont sell puppies to pet homes!!!??

The GLP is a working dog and breeders are trying to establish the breed primarily as a working dog in the UK. This affords the breed a degree of protection from individuals whom just see £ signs because of it's rarity value. 

the GLP can be a family pet, provided it has loads of mental and physical stimulation.
The hard part is finding a breeder who will sell one to a pet home, its not cos they make bad pets, they make fantastic pets, breeders are just trying to protect the breed, and make sure it is not exploited, like so many breeds are.

I was interested in this breed, but only 1/2 litters are born each year, and i only know of one breeder in the UK.
breeders try to make sure their pups go to working homes.

so really you have a very slim chance of getting a pup and a very long wait!
But from what ive heard about them, they would be worth the wait!
