Please any advice would be accepted. I am seeing the vet (with Meg of course) tonight and meanwhile he has advised ibuprofen.
Meg is 2 and we spent the day at the seaside yesterday so loads of exercise. She rested on the journey home and for a couple of hours at home and was fine when she went into the garden about 9ish. When I called her in she just dragged herself in, laid where she was and whined.
I checked her over, no breaks or cuts and when I got her to walk, no limp but she was so cautious and layed as soon as she could.
I rang the vet who ruled out the scary stuff like bloat and the earliest he could see her was this evening. The pain killers have stopped the crying but she can't wag her tail and is only moving to go to the toilet. She is eating though.
Any ideas???
sorry i can't advise on this but why dont you join and people can help you more easily
I hope your dog is ok, good luck with the vet

I've heard that Ibuprofen is very harmful for a dog's liver. Even asprin should be taken in very small quantities, but is safer. Give with food and just one for a bigger dog. Anyhow, I hope your dog is OK. Let us know. That is perplexing. Did your dog do a lot of exercise that it doesn't usually do?

I would have thought (with at least full gastric torsion) that after a day she would be dead so my guess is it is not that. Linking to the day at the sea, a blockage caused by swallowing pebbles? Something simple like a badly upset tummy from swallowing sea water?
Just a couple of thoughts, John

Looking at the hearing of the post Digger, I would guess so ;)

Doh!!! :) You're the Lab man John - don't they have a syndrome where the dog looses the use of the tail after too much swimming in cold water??? Maybe this one is just a drama queen?
OP - how did it go at the vets?

Yes, wet tail, but they dont usually make this much fuss. I seem to remember Lorna's Tess had this. I've also seen Anna so tired after a day in the field that she is unable to hold her tail up. But that is usually accompanied by loud snoring!
I'd really like to know how this one works out. I still favour ingesting too much salt water.
Best wishes, John
HI
Yes that was my guess to - wet tail. I have a lab myself. Unfortunately she hasn't been to the water yet. She is a year old now, and it has been to long a walk for her to go to the beach (I don't have a car or a license), and I didn't want to go there in the winter. Now we are not allowed down there, because of birdnesting!
So I don't really know how or when she will get to the beach unfortunately!
