After much deliberation we have decided to breed from our bitch.  I've been posting on this forum for quite some time now and have listened to everything that has been said on breeding, taken on board advice on recommended health checks and we thought long and hard about what to do.  I am on my third copy of The Book of the Bitch, having given copies away to those I felt would benefit!  The search for an appropriate male took some time but eventually one shone through on recommendation from several different places, all leading back to the same dog.  We are going back for our third and final visit today (I think) and over the past three days have achieved two good ties of 30 mins.

It's been the scariest thing I have ever done, even over and above the decision years ago to have babies myself!  My poor girlie was a very willing participant although did become scarily vocal at one point, she's a bit of a baby at the best of times!  This is her fourth season and her first mating took place on the 12th day.  I don't know if we should take her again today as we have been successful twice already, any suggestions?

My boy has been responsible for litters before but we have only had baby rabbits at home, luckily I have some experienced help on hand as well as all you guys!  So, just counting down the days!

Lol @ Kerioak :-)  No he is a springer and although I had close contact with his litters the only litter of babies I have ever had in my home were rabbits as we used to breed dalmatian Rex!  Hope that cleared that matter up!?!  And despite anything I may have said in the heat of the moment, I haven't ever had kittens!

We did take our bitch to see the stud dog today and things were much cooler than the past couple of days.  She was keen to stand and him to mount but it was all pretty ineffectual so we decided to give them some space and took her home.  Fingers crossed the two successful ties will have done the trick.
