I have a 4yr old GSD which is very obediant but is easily distracted by other dogs when out on a walk or at the park. The choke chain doesn`t seem to have the same effect on him when u correct him.I  have looked at message board on prong pinch collars.Would be willing to try one if would stop him running from one end of park to the other to play with another dog.if possible where could I get one in scotland.Or any other advise that would help.

You'll probably find Andy that most people don't agree with prong/pinch collars as they're seen as cruel.

All the equipment in the world will not replace training.  Pinch collars are not designed for pet use; punishment and pain are not suitable methods of behaviour management; why not try and find a kind, fair and effective method of training where you and your dog can have fun whilst learning?.    Obviously your dog is not very obedient if it goes running off to play with other dogs; take the time to train a proper recall so that the dog finds you more interesting than the other dog!

Andy, a pinch/prong collar will not stop him taking off after other dogs when he is free running. Only time and training will stop this. Get him on a long line on a NORMAL LEATHER COLLAR and insist that he recalls first time - every time. Don't forget to reward him when he recalls to you. It is not going to happen over night and you are going to have to work at it. I am sure others will be along shortly with more suggestions on how you can cure this problem yourself.

I'm afraid Andy that if you used a pinch prong collar with a long cord to stop him running off you would almost certainly succeed. When he reached the end of the cord at speed he would almost certainly be dead! At the very least he would be very seriously injured.

Hoping you have second thoughts, John

I thought those horrid things were BANNED !! if they are not, then they should be.
your dogs problem can be just as easily fixed by time, patience and proper training without the need to use arcaic devices such as a prong collar,i strongly disagree with the use of choker chains, lettalone prong, prong and training to NOT go together, more like prong, pain, scared :(

Just remember there is no such thing as EASY training,it seems to me you are tring to find an easy way out!
Please do not inflict these disgusting "collars" on your dog.Can you register so you can explain in more detail why you find the need to use a prong? I'm sure we will all be able to come up with a more humane way to help your dog, inflicting pain is not the way!!
prong collars remind me of the devices you see in torture chambers!

you mentioned <<<<Would be willing to try one if would stop him running from one end of park to the other to play with another dog>>>

Would not having him on the lead sort this ?

How do you think this sort of collar would stop the above issue ?
