if i choose a rescue dog, will the dog respond eventually to a different name.
e.g. my brother adopted a lurcher called brian and kept his name. it is so funny to watch when hes called. do you think an older dog would respond to a name change.

Think most dogs cotton on quick enough, whether or not they choose to take any notice is another matter.

Our dog was called Anakin (sp?) Skywalker when he was in Battersea - I think that he was very relieved when we changed his name :D

If possible, you could try to think of a name that sounds like the one the dog already has.  I know someone who rescued a dog called Missy and renamed her Lizzie.  Though I don't know how many names have similar sounding ones...
