Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / undoing toilet habit
- By tamholly [gb] Date 10.04.04 18:51 UTC
Hi
has anyone got any ideas how i can stop my pup asking to go out to toilet every 30mins.She is 15wks and had a bad bladder infection for nearly a month and she would only be able to hold on for 30mins.Trouble is she is now better but still wants to go out and if i dont let her she scratches at the door and dribbles .When she gets outside she squats but doesn't go so i think it has just become habit. She is dry for upto 3 1/2 hours now and overnight and i have tried to distract her with treats and toys and ignoring her but nothing is working at the moment :( any ideas would be appreciated
thanks

The infection may not be totally cleared - might be worth taking her back to the vet with a fresh sample just to check......

I would second digger's thoughts.

I have been back to the vets and infection has gone.I think it is a habit as she had the infection from 10.5 wks to 14.5 wks and she was going to the door every 1/2 hr or so(posted before on health board)

Maybe..... instead of waiting for her to ask you should take her out before she even thinks about asking. Then when you have turned the habit around you could increase the time scale gradually.  Bit of a work up to start with maybe but might do the trick.

If you have tried to distract her with treats and toys could that be why she is still doing it?
