Well I have tossed this about for a long while, thought about it long and hard, even had sleepless nights about it, but the descision is made I am getting another dog...I even considered breeding a litter from Sal as you know. I also considered seriously for a time getting a ...Lab rescue... but to be honest with you all, my heart has and always will belong to Staffords. So I am getting another.
Breeder of MY choice, has a litter with two bitches from Sal's halfs sister...but he may keep one himself so not to sure there, but he has just mated Sal's Mom to a dog I have always admired so fingers crossed I will have my second Stafford bitch, this year.
Before anyone jumps on the bandwagon I don't want this post to disolve into a disagreement about getting and keeping two Stafford bitches - I know the risks - but also know that at home and out and about I am in charge. So the saying I like a fair bit "dogs fight for breeding rights bitches for breathing rights"...will 'fingers crossed' not apply because in this house I am in charge of breathing rights ;)
I am very excited about the forthcoming arrival and will keep you all posted. What do you think about names; choices so far are down to two: Daizy or Rio? But open to suggestions black Stafford bitch?
Karen
hi kazz
we have a black brindle & white bitch and she is called Jazz, we also are going to get another, and some of the previous posts on here have worried me as we also wanted another bitch, probably from our own litter later in the year.
Let me know how you get on, as i have had the same sleepness nites debating whether to have a bitch or a dog! :)
Emma

WOW It's a hard dessions I know, and then its finding something you like. I must admit have always found bicthes ok together (but thats with experiance in working, pastoral and gundg breeds) but I am sure that you will have no problems, as long as when the pup comes in it knows you are top, and it is bottom!!!
As for names, Daizy? Will that suit a staff? I can't see a black Staff being called Daizy! Rio on the other hand...Well I could just see that (Know a girl at school called rio who can be compared to a staffy...not a girly girl in looks!!!) So yes Rio should be the name if you were me!!! :)

Well the choice on dog or bitch has been hard but I do not want Sal spayed yet, if at all! So the difficulties of keeping an intact bitch and dog were overwhelming me so decided on a bitch :) I know I will like the pups and the choice will be difficult but I "know" they will be so similar due to excellent breeding that there won't be much between them so it will be the one I "LIKE." I agree with the "Daizy" line of thought Rox, but it wan't my choice I have liked "Rio" ever since Mitch had it for her pup, so I am 'stealing' it ;) Actualy I kinda like 'Roxie' now you have spoken Rox.
I know what you mean Emma by the choice and hearing the horror stories but my way of thinking is I have never had a "bad" Stafford so can't see why this would be any different. Sal will be old enough to be in charge, but ultimately I am :)
Will let you know how we get on. Interesting times ahead I think.
Karen

Ohhh a possibly Roxie...Hang on a minute...I have already had one Staffie named Roxie, after me, Are people trying to say I'm like a staffie.... LOL :D

I don't mind one bit if you pinch my pups name Karen :) It's a nice name and suits a black dog. (Or brindle of course :D )
Other names I considered at the time were, Ria and Tia. I also know a black bitch called Tally which I quite liked.
Keep us informed on what you decide on.
Michelle.
"dogs fight for breeding rights bitches for breathing rights"
Like everything else to do with dogs - this depends on the breed :)

And Kerioak - I think the owners :)
Karen
Edited to say Kerioak; Syd is doing fine too :)

It depens on the way they are brought up and who is top dog and how strong willed the top dog is!!!! :)
Rox
Hmm Black Staffy bitch how about Karma? :D All the best with your new addition, we're waiting patiently for our staffy and wondering if they havent found the right dog or are going to wait till Minibeast is older. Rio is a nice name but is always associated with males for me how about Ria or Darlene?

Karen - I reckon that you will play around with a lot of names until you get your little girl - then the "right" name will stick to her!!!
Or am I just too fanciful for words??

hello kazz,
congratulations on your decision to extend your family.
I think every situation is individual - and nobody knows your dog like you do, therefore you should be able to come to a desision as to how she will react with another dog in her habitat.
As im sure you know i had another male staff who is almost 6 months now- i already had a male who is 2 on thursday. i wasn't sure whether to ghet male/female the 2nd time around, but i fell in love with bailey, and was sure taz would be okay. Good news is he is they get on great and i have never looked back.(except maybe for the mess bailey is a real chewer, whereas i never had that with taz!!!!)
good luck.
As for names how about jet or star.

I think I go with Margot on this one the name will come when I see the dog, well bitch in my case :)
"Roxie" is fav at the moment, other contenders are "Lizzie, Beth, Rio, Daizy, Kizzy" But the name will come when I see her I'm sure.
Had a bit of a panic the other day a friend came with their EBT bitch pup "Soda" who is 14 weeks old and Sal saw her then ran off, I though "OH NO" but she came back with "Baby" her soft toy when she was a puppy I'd even forgotten where I had put it, but obviously she didn't. And let the pup happily throw "Baby" about the garden.
So I have a Safford who like every other Stafford is a big softie at heart ;)
Karen
A friend has a really dark brindle Boxer bitch and she's called Ebony.
Her lighter litter sister was India.
I have 3 bitches ranging from 12 weeks to 6 years.
They are fine. The eldest is top bitch, always gets fed first etc etc.
Hi Karen you lucky thing, i would love a second dog but hubby insists we only need one,
i like Rio, Tia, meg, Nina
good luck
Heidi
