hi everyone, i was reading some of the old messages and i noticed that someone was looking for a Bichon frise puppy, but someone said dont get one from wales because they are puppy farmers so could you tell me what puppy farmers actully do? also as anyone ever heard of vale-view kennels in carmarthem in wales?

Hm lots of breeds the bichon puppy on the entry page has very bad tear stains

They don't just outside studs & no mention of heart etc tests(nor that the breed has these + syringomeylia as health problems)being vetted by their local vet isn't enough

They do not show in cavaliers

Puppy farmers breed multiple breeds for money & usually use the same stud on lots of their breeding bitches, basically they breed for money

I don't know anything about that kennel but one thing I will say. Tarring all breeders in Wales as puppy farmers is nonsense! There are some very good breeders in Wales, some very bad ones and others at all points in between.

So how do you tell a puppy farmer? I'm always concerned when I see someone with more than one breed of puppy for sale. But then, I know a person who has two breeds and she is certainly no puppy farmer. I'm also concerned when I see multiple litters of puppies for sale but again, that is not always a good guide. Breeding lots of puppies is maybe not a good thing for a breed, nor is breeding without knowing the breed but novices do it all the time! Unregistered puppies of puppies registered with the "Dog Lovers" could possibly be looked upon sideways although I know several people who don't register pet dogs. (I think they are wrong but there it is).

Possibly to find a puppy farmer you are looking at a combination of several of these things plus keeping dogs in substandard conditions.

Whenever anyone goes to see a puppy, ASK QUESTIONS! see the dam as well as the puppies. Look at the pedigrees. If the stud dog belongs to the breeder try to find out if it was a planned litter and if not check the pedigrees VERY carefully to see if it is very closely bred.

I agree John there is a puppy farmer in the middle of the nearest city to me

She shows one breed & has another 9-10 breeds that she makes her money from. She always has puppies of all the breeds & registers some with the KC & others with the DLRC Her premises are very clean & tidy, but the cavaliers she breeds are not heart/eye tested & she has never heard of syringomeylia either.

She too has her own stud dogs & never uses outside studs so the dogs are quite inbred. Funnily enough she has had quite a degree of success with the show breed, but when her best dog( a toy breed)broke it's leg she didn't know for three days by which time the dog's show career was over. Hm toy breeds are not kennel dogs, but all her dogs live in the kennels even the show ones :(

and then again both my dogs came from breeders in Wales.  Certainly not puppy farms but good recommended working breeders and I have been very very happy with my choice ever since.
