Is it possible to change a kennel name?
Sparky was given his kennel name after we called him Sparky - it is - wait for it - Spark Plugs.
The girls and OH were very disappointed, as they had chosen Sparky in part because it was the nickname of Mark Hughes - their favourite footballer! They still think Sparky's kennel name should reflect their connection with Man Utd, where I would like him to have a kennel name that gives some indication of his ancestory.
Just wondering...

It is possible to change a kennel name before your dog gets into the stud book but only if the breeder signs to say they agree to the change.  I can't remember how much it costs.  Obviously the affix can not be changed.

Personally I think Spark Plugs is a great name.

Thanks for you replies,
What's an affix by the way? Is it when a breeder puts the name of their kennel at the front? If his name is just Spark Plugs does that mean he doesn't have an affix?
Might be easier to trade OH in for a nice young car mechanic so the name makes sense ;) !!!

Yes, the affix is the kennel name.  Any pup I breed would be prefixed by Fleetgold so if I had bred your pup it would be Fleetgold Spark Plugs.  If I had purchased the pup from another breeder I could add my affix to the end making your pup Spark Plugs at Fleetgold.  It sounds as if your pup does not have an affix.  Has his breeder done any breeding before?

Yes, she was a private breeder, not professional, and this Sparky's mum's 3rd litter, all by dogs from the same breeder that Sparky's dad was from. She has now been retired and she isn't doing any more. The stud dog was from another breeder who does have the affix you talk about, but I understand now why Sparky doesn't have one. I take it you can't just choose to add the affix of the stud dog, either? In any case, his dad's affix isn't the same as that attached to the dogs bred by his owner now, so I assume he came from a different kennel.

It's all very complicated, isn't it? Think I'll stick to my young mechanic idea! :-D
I'm sure Sparky isn't bothered!

By the way, Joan - are you in Fleetwood?

I'd go with finding the young mechanic!  <VBG>

I used to live in Fleetwood and my affix comes from Fleetwood and my surname (Goldin), but I'm now about 10 miles down the road just outside Blackpool.

Thought it might be something like that - Sparky came from Lytham, and my credit card gets a regular bashing at Freeport  :)

I haven't been to Freeport for ages, must pay it another visit.

Sorry if I've missed it but what breed is Sparky?

He's a BC - black and white, very long haired - 11 months old and good at it! Lovely though :-D.

Tracy

You can change the name (not affix tho') with the KC. Download the form or phone them to send one.  It costs £30 and you need the breeder to sign the form.  One of our puppy buyers did exactly that.
