Hi All,

As you may know this is Lou and I's 1st litter and was just interested in the arrangements you all make regarding the departure of puppies once they are 8 weeks old. I dont mean paperwork like KC, Insurance, pedigree etc - I know all that, it is where do you put mum & care of her afterwards. Will she mope ?
I am keeping a lovely flashy brindle girl so I don't suppose it will be as hard. What do you all do?

Aimi x

Hi

Try not to let all the pups leave on the same day especially if your bitch is still spending a lot of time with them.  If you spread it out it won't be quite such a shock for her

Can you ask youre new owners to provide a blanket or soft toy for the pup that you can put with mum and the rest of the litter for several days before they leave so they have something to take to the new home that smells familiar?

I try and separate mum  more and more before the dreaded day.I  dont ever let all mine go on the same day but as the previous poster suggested stagger the pic ups

Hi Digger

Have you ever actually left something in with a litter of pups for several days :D  It would probably walk out on its own :D

I am quite happy for people to bring something with them that I will put in with the pups and mum for an hour or two, this way it picks up the scent but does not get too dirty

LOL!
I am permanently amazed at the area a puppy poo will cover when it has had paws in it.  One poop = covered walls, floor, each other, visitors...
And thats just when I get to it in about four seconds flat!
