Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Affixes and the KC

Hi

A very kind lady from within my breed (labradors) phoned me last night to let me know that whilst she was browsing through her copy of the Kennel Gazette, and looking at 'applied for affixes' she came across an application for the affix of 'Tarkabay', and thought she ought to let me know as my affix, which was granted in 1998 is Tarkabby.

So this morning I posted a letter of objection to the necessary address, and hope that I will hear back from them the result.

Has any one else experienced this, and what was the outcome?

Di (Tarkabby Labradors)
(I'm not knocking whoever applied for the affix as they're probably totally unaware that mine is so similar)

Surprised that the KC did not pick it up themselves, but if it is done by computer I suppose the fact that it would be spoken the same way may not have been picked up. If you are in time I would have thought that it will not be allowed. If you are very concerned I would phone and tell them a letter is on the way, at least they can look into it now, except it being a holiday guess no one will be at work

I'd phone on Tuesday if I were you, unfortunately there's no way that it should be accepted as it's identical really.

Good luck.  Have to say that I've been in touch with the KC a few times recently over the phone and they've been so nice and helpful, makes a change from the old KC years ago where you felt that they were unapproachable.

Thanks for the replies - glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks it's pretty close!

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to phone them on Tuesday as i'm going into hospital to be induced if baby hasn't arrived by then - and then I'm sure it'll be the last thing I'm thinking about!

Fingers crossed that the letter does the job, eh :-)

Good luck for Tuesday, then!!!

Do hope that everything goes well - and I do hope that you chose the Stud carefully, making sure that all health checks - hips, eyes etc - were in order :D :D :D

Are you keeping the Pick of the Litter ???:D :D

Margot
(And remember your breathing - being induced is like going straight into top gear, so the stronger the contraction, the lighter the breathing :D)

Blooming heck - unless theres a medical reason for it DONT do it!!!
W.H.O. states the average length of a pregnancy is 37 - 42 weeks.  This induction policy at 40 weeks is the main contributor to the rising c/s rate!
Dont know if youre happy to be induced (or how far gone >g<) or whether they have said you *have * to be!  If the latter then, you are within your rights to opt for monitoring and make your own decisions.
Sorry, this is a personal bugbear of mine LOL, and I cant email you off line as hiddne email.
Best of luck whatever happens!
Enjoy that baby when he/she arrives!

LOL

There's been quite a bit of confusion over dates - and I'm not 'exactly' sure when i'm due - but i'm quite sure that I am overdue, and consultant is quite confident that baby is already rather large. (was originally told 8th, then 4th April - then 28th March (rapidly growing baby!!!) - ouch! - but now we think that 4th ish was most likely)

We're hoping it might arrive of it's own accord before being induced - time will tell - and i've been told that I have every right to say no if I don't want to be, but then it'd be another week before they'll do it - by which time i'll be massive. Check up on tuesday, with 'possible' induction Weds. We shall see.....

And in reply to previous posts and future questions.....

Stud - very carefully chosen - didn't have a great distance to travel though ;-)
Breed - human (NOT labrador! - I'm def. not into that type of thing, and it the question has been asked .... believe me!)
Dog / Bitch - No - I don't know - will find out when it arrives
Singleton - only the one, so won't be making any money from this particular mating (not that anyone ever 'makes' any money from a litter!)
Likely colour - well I'd be very shocked if it's black or choc (no racist inuendo meant :-)
Will having just the one be easier than a big litter? - I VERY much doubt it!!!!!
