Most 'well bred' cockers will be docked.I suggest that if you want a pup with a tail you contact a breeder and offer to pay for a pup when its born and request the breeder then leaves your pup undocked.Tell them you appreciate your money is non returnable and that you understand that you will not have a choice of pups...just the one with a tail.

What sort of comment is that? To say that most 'well bred' cocker spaniels are docked, I can think of a multitude of pedigree breeds, particulary ones bred on puppy farms and sold from retail outlets that are traditionally docked that are far from 'well bred'. Cannot agree with that comment, it is not good advice to offer a person who has personally decided that they wish to purchase an undocked puppy, to suggest, inaccurately, that the only cocker spaniels that are 'well bred' are the ones that are docked, is just not true.

I am NOT saying that ALL puppies that are docked are well bred!!!! It is a fact that most breeders who breed for the show ring or work DO dock their pups and hence if she wants a well bred pup with a tail she will have to contact a breeder before the pups are born.
You turned my post around....just because A leads to B doesnt mean that B leads to A!!!My advice was sound ...if you misinterpreted it wrong maybe you should re read it

Hi, If you wish to purchase an undocked puppy or need advice or to contact breeders with undocked litters (of historically docked breeds with Kennel Club registered litters, bred to ethical standards) then please contact the Anti Docking Alliance
their website is http://anti-dockingalliance.co.uk, you can also email with the details of the breed that you have an interest in to: info@anti-dockingalliance.co.uk
By contacting the above I am sure you will be able to acquire a very well bred cocker spaniel puppy. Bred by a breeder who fulfills the criteria of not only being responsible by following all screening that is required but has opted to leave their puppies tails as nature intended.

I am only aware of a small handful of breeders of undocked Cockers who do the recommended heath-screening tests so you will have to be patient, particularly if you are looking for a minority colour like chocolate roan. Be careful as many less reputable breeders are now breeding chocolates to meet the demand from the general public so try not to make colour too important an issue - health & temperament should always come first.
