I have a long hair chihuahua. I would love to get her groomed... Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should get her trimmed?

Sorry I don't know. But a good groomer will know how to trim your Chihuahua

Neither do I but I am suprised that the groomer doesn't, there are groomers on the board so perhaps one of them will come on soon and help you.

I hope so. I think That the ladys that I talked to were un familiar(sp) with the breed. I am starting to figure out that they are kinda rare....

I don't think you should trim them at all a bit like cavaliers the feathering is part of the dog & to trim it seems rather silly. I cannot see it being long enough to trim
<Long Coat: soft texture (never coarse or harsh to touch) either flat or slightly wavy. Never tight and curly. Feathering on ears, feet and legs, pants on hindquarters, large ruff on neck desirable. Tail long and full as a plume.>

I don't really WANT to groom her, more so than it NEEDS to be trimed around her hinnie..... It becomes a mess, if you know what I mean?

Well I've just looked on google for hinnie and it's either a fruit bun from Northumberland or a Scottish Lass. :) If it NEEDS to be trimmed then the groomer should know what is the best way to do it. I must say that I would prefer to keep it brushed and wash it when neccessary if she were mine. My Afghan sometimes pees on herself and I just give her a quick washdown. Wish she was a Chihuahua so she would fit in the sink. :)

Think she means thingy :-D

Thank you. I have looked all oner the net.......... I can't hardly find anything on the long hair breed. Everything if for the short hair.. frustrating

Could you not phone whoever you bought it from to enquire about trimming. I am sure they would be only too pleased to help.

I've never known long haired chihuahua's that need trimming but I might be wrong. I'll ask my daughter because she trained quite a few for hearing dogs.
why dont you ask her breeder they will hopefully be able to help

I have but they are not experienced w/ the long hair version. GiGi was a quirk in her litter.... She was supposed to be a short hair.. Thanks for the advise tho

Hi
I have Papillons, same but different, if you know what I mean lol. I trim my dogs back legs (only to the hock) and feet other than that theres no other trimming required.
Some people do trim around there bottoms, but must admit it looks a bit strange when the dog walks away from you if your not used to it.
Best to keep a brush and/or comb next to your chair and give her a brush once a day (helps to keep tangles from forming) when she comes onto your knee, or keep a low table handy and put her on that. If she has a dirty bottom the shower only takes a few moments to shift it, and you don't have to do the whole dog. Other than that I don't know that there would be much more trimming required.
Hope this helps some.
Regards

That helps.. Thanks so much.... I just thought that maybe they were the type that you got trimmed. She is my first baby.. so I have tons Of questions. Thanks so much H

can your breeders not put you in touch with someone who has the long haired variety??
rox
long coated chichuahuas are never normally trimmed. A regular wash and groom should be sufficient.

What about using thinning scissors/blenders?
If you use them on the feathered part at the rear of the hind legs maybe this would help the situation, but I wouldn't do it if you are showing her, only if its to make things more practical for keeping clean.
Hope this helps

maby thin it out with thinners or tidy it up with sissors just take it dawn a bit to blend it in
