All loaded onto the new laptop. :)
If anybody sends any attachments it zaps them. How do we unzap them if we know they are OK ?

Thanks

Lucy

Try changing the level of protection from high to medium - I doubt if they have been zapped that they are recoverable.

There are a lot of virus around so I would be inclined just to believe it and leave them zapped :D

The trouble is my dear departed laptop that has gone to the resting place in the sky has my CV on and so somebody is trying to send me my cv so I can save it and send it out again in my job searching ! :)

I am loathed to downgrade the security on my new laptop. Don't want it to go the same way. I was devasted when the old one died. It was like a part of the family :D

Hard to say - depends which bit of Norton is doing the zapping and what you mean by zapping.

Have you checked that you have not pressed the big red 'no entry' button on the firewall menu that blocks all traffic?

If it's the antivirus program that is doing the zapping, if you're sure your friend has scanned the Word document before sending it you could always disable autoprotect and do a right-click manual scan on the attachment before opening it. In the antivirus program options its likely the Norton default is to automatically quarantine, back-up and repair a suspect file. You could always click the next option down, ie. to ask you what to do next before Norton does anything with the suspect attachment.

Worth a try? Have you tried asking Norton at the Symantec website?

What about your friend sticking it on a floppy and mailing it to you - cheap. If all else fails could your friend cut and paste from the Word document and send you the text in an e-mail? You'd have to cut and paste into Word and reformat but at least you'd not have to type it all out again...

HTH :)

My Norton Virus Checker suddenly wont let me update or do anything it is suddenly saying something about a Norton Supervisor and asking for a password and will not recognise my Norton password where has this come from?

you need to go to outlook> tools> options> security and change attachment settings there.
Kind regards,
Linda
