Topic Dog Boards / Health / Natural products for worming and ticks

Hi !

Has anyone any experience with natural products for worming dogs and cats ? I'm trying to find someone who has had some results using the various methods I've been able to find on various internet sites.

Those I've found so far are :

Propolis
Coconut oil
Abrotanum

All to be taken internally.

For fighting ticks and fleas I've found :

Daily addition of rosemary and garlic to food (mainly dogs - cats probably wouldn't touch it!) or
a spray made up of rosemary and lemon, with a bit of tea tree oil if the dog has dry skin, applied twice a week to dog or cat

Does anyone have any other ideas ?

Our vet and I are trying to compile a liste of alternative methods to the usual chemical Frontline or Drontal.

Any input at all would be most welcome, especially if anyone has experience with cats !

Happy Easter !

There really is no such thing as a herbal wormer - in fact there is no way any herbal product will ever be licensed for worms by the VMD.  If it is not licensed there is no way of knowing whether it is safe.  So be very wary of anything herbal on the market saying that it effective for worms as there will be very little evidence to substantiate this.

Juliette de Bairacli Levys book says about several herbs that can be used including Male Fern which is excellent at getting rid of worms, but I believe it is a bit of a risky treatment because of problems withd dosaging and of course the problem in knowing the strength and quality of the herb you are using.  Garlic really helps prevent worm infestations but does not really clear them up once they are in place.

Good luck with your search!
