I hope someone can help me here.

Over the past week Tammy & Jasper have been very helpful rearranging my furniture for me (even though I don't want it rearranged) with their playing.  However, I am getting a bit concerend as yesterday and this morning during one of their very many play sessions I have noticed that Jasper is trying very hard to mount Tammy.  Tammy is having none of it and is telling him off but it doesn't seem to deter him.

Tammy finished her last season on 9th December and so we aren't really expecting her to come into season until June(?)  We have only had Tam since November so we don't know what her cycle is.

Can she really be comming into season or is it just Jasper getting a bit overexcited?

Tammy is going down the vets for her second lot of innoculations on friday so I will mention this behaviour to him too.

One of my bitches comes into season every four months or so.  It is not impossible that your girl is going to do the same.

I had a bitch that came into season every four months as well, it's a right pain but nothing you can do about it.

Tam went to vets yesterday but the vet couldn't see any signs but because my Jas is very persitent on trying to mount her he gave her a contraceptive injection and both dogs have been seperated for the past 2 days.  It cost me £30 for the injection and what a weight on her!!!

Hopefully this injection will do the trick.

Oh I didn't know you could get a contraceptive injection?  Are these recommended or generally steered clear of, except when really necessary like in the above case, when living with a male?  I'm just wondering because Millie will be six months old next Monday, and today is only week 2 of her puppy socialisation course and I'm already worried about her having to miss out if she comes into season..

My vet has no problem in giving a contraceptive injection.  It is only a temporary thing, say if you wanted to breed from your bitch but not yet or unsure if you want her spayed then they will give the injection for up to two years then after that they will suggest spaying if you do not intend to breed.

So far it has worked.  Jas has backed off a little but they are still seperated at the moment.

Could there be another bitch locally who is coming into season?  he might be acting on the scent.
Sounds daft, but have you considered neuteringhim if you dont want to breed or show - just a thought, dont know your plans ;-)
