Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / teaching old dogs new tricks?

HI all.

My sister has recently got a rescue labrador who is lovely, she is house trained and will do sit, down stay etc. The thing is they are not really perfected and her re-call is a bit ropey especially when other dogs are around or there are any distractions.
I have tried taking her out with my dog who is good with her recall and that has worked but obviously I can't be there evert time she goes for a walk.
This lab is 9, is it possible to go back to basics and have a good response or is it tue that you can't teach old dogs new tricks?

Thanks

From my experience they are never too old.  Just a lot of care and perseverence and I'm sure they'll get there.  What a wonderful thing to give an oldie a chance :d

Yes it is possible - you just need even more patience. Well done to your sister, what a lucky dog!

It is possible to go back to basics but it will take longer to train an older dog then a puppy!
