why is it some breeders are very chattyt before they get youy deposit then they do not want to know you?
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 07.04.04 18:36 UTC
Have know idea but it could be that they are worn out raising a litter, try a little understanding.

think you answered your own question :) money!

It may be but if they have a carefully bred litter they would have no trouble finding homes so it could just be sleepless nights. We all know what it is like when you have to get on and the dam phone rings yet again, as you go to answer the phone the pups find there way out of the pen and latch onto the nearest thing that could kill them.

Hi Guest  raising a puppy is very time consuming,I kept in touch with my prospective puppy owners mainly by email in the early days just to let them know of the develpmental stages and that all was ok! ,having already spoken at length ,met and vetted them,my time was needed to ensure there new puppy was given the maximun attention and care, time spent on the phone to 7 perspective owners is time I couldnt spend with the puppies!
So far no one has complained and the boot is always on the other foot when the pups go to there new homes! will you want to ring the breeder everyday or will you be to busy with your new family member! try to be understanding and if your unhappy discuss it with the breeder! :)

i know what you mean - my breeder couldn't be nicer till i got my puppy then she didn't want to know - my dog has done really well and she now even blanks me at champ shows and at crufts she deliberatly looked in the opposite direction while i was in the ring, i'm sorry to say that sometimes they regret giving you the puppy you have picked as sometimes its the best in the litter and the rest aren't showable thats the only reason i can think of

Sorry you have had such a bad experience, have to say all the breeders I have bought a puppy from, without exception, have been delighted when I have had success in the show ring and have never lost interest in the pup I bought from them shown or not. It is a shame you have been unfortunate in your choice of breeder.

My dogs breeders always make a point of talking to us at the shows we go to & even the stud dog owners in my youngest dogs case.

I'm over the moon when dogs that I bred beat me and even win best of breed.   I bred it so I couldn't care less if it won me every time, actually I really enjoy seeing my breeding winning at shows.  Well when I say winning, getting best of breed in the import register as they can't do anything else :d

I wouldn't think that a likely reason, unless they kept a puppy themselves that isn't as good.

As a breeder I love to see new owners doing well with a puppy I have bred, it is even better than showing it yourself (and doesn't cost me the entry :D ).  After all we can't keep all the ones we might like to.

My biggest regret when I breed a carefully planned litter is when none of the prospective new owners wish to show, and there is a lovely pup that no one of my peers in the breed witll ever see.  It can be equally disapointing to find one being shown that wasn't the best in the litter, as the owners had no intention of showing so just picked a puppy without looking at show promise.

I can't do as many shows as some people due to cost and not having transport, so I live through the successes of pups I have bred as much as those I have at home.

My Champion bitch is the only one in her litter to be shown, and that only because she came back.  It was a lovely litter, but not one person showed any interest in showing :(

Maxi, I know what you mean!  We have 4 dogs who we have brought in from show people who we show, now all of them are pleased when they do well or even the dogs do something when im in the junior handling!!!!!  But one breeder, well we were offerd pick of litter and the breeder wasn't going to keep a pup, but she did, at first only for breeding due to being mismarked and then she started showing her (shes a champion not on her merit!) but the bitch is the one of uours that is nervy and at first we thought 'she needs to learn' in the end we pulled her out the ring, only taking her to exeption shows where she won her class, then she beat her bitch at an open show and thats we, she won't talk to us or moya, the stud dog owner on the other hand keep trying to run away with her!!!!!!!!! :O LOL

Some breeders are just not worth it and I have said there is only 1 person who still breeds who we will go to for another red and white baby!!!

I can understand if the new owner was on the phone every five minutes then the breeder may be a bit reluctant to speak ALL the time .
Gus's breeder is lovely and I feel we can chat/mail her any time for advice etc and shes always friendly and helpful :)
Friendliness doesnt cost anything .....

i have it the other way around here.
got a deposit off a every nice lady. before getting the deposit she was on the phone all the time and email which was fine.  since i have had the deposit nothing no calls no email nothing.  i have left half a dozzen email for her and ring her twice but still nothing

so it is not always the breed

What about those potential owners who ring freqently - there is one who I must have spent 7 or 8 hours on the phone with as the minimum call has been 40 minutes and most are longer.  Then makes an appointment to view when the pups are old enough and don't turn up or let you know they are not coming :(

got to say my breeder is a fantastic lady. nothing is to much trouble for her. she gave me alot of support when i said that i would like to start showing ,she herself picked me the best dog she had the best bitch. we are competing against each other on monday which she is fine about infact she would like it if i was placed over her.
