We have a two year old blue roan cocker spaniel that we would like to breed. We would like to contact in the Yorkshire area, breeders, that have Blue or orange roan at stud.

Why do you want to breed ? Is your bitch well bred? Presumably she comes from eye tested parents and is eye tested herself?  You have looked at her pedigree and will know about her ancestry, you will of course be prepared for the responsibility of having a litter of puppies and know that you will have to be prepared for things to go wrong. You will find that after you have paid a stud fee paid vet bills , k.c. registered your puppies, maybe paid more vet bills, paid for your puppies food , perhaps paid advertising costs, the list could go on! you are very likely to be out of pocket or if you are lucky you will cover the cost of breeding your puppies. I really hope you have thought long and hard about what you are doing and remember you will have a duty to make sure that any puppies that you breed are placed in the best possible homes, the responsibility of breeding a litter doesn,t stop when you find homes for them all it should carry on for the rest of their lives. Why have you not contacted the breeder of your bitch ? i,m sure if they are reputable breeders they will be able to advise you .

Someone once calculated on one of their litters with NO problems it cost the over £2000.  They had a bitch who had problems and puppies in that litter needed ALOt of veternairy treatment andthat came to something that was astonashing!!!!  With breeding you risk to lose alot of money and in some cases the risk of losing your bitch!  Are you still prepared to breed now?  Also what will happen if your bitch has a large litter and you are left with 4 puppies?  what are you going to do with them?  have you got the time, money etc too look after them untill you find homes.  Also what if someone buys your puppy and then after 48 hours one of the family members is allergic to the dog (this has happend) will u be prepared to take th pup back and find another home?

here are alot of things to onsider BEFORE breeding about what wil happen AFTER the litter is born for the next 15 years!

If you need to ask on here for a stud dog, then I'm afraid you do not have the knowledge of your breed or your bitch to be ready to breed a litter. If your bitch came from a responsible breeder, that is the person to approach before you make any plans. Try joining a breed club where you can contact people who can advise you on your bitch's pedigree & the advisability or not of breeding from her.

When I had my last litter, one of my dogfood suppliers had a well-bred litter of dobermanns. She was at her wits' end when, at 14 weeks, she still had 9 males left unsold, eating her out of house and home, and becoming harder to home the more they grew.
