I dont know about anyone else but I thought the last discussion regarding the grand national began as a sensible and informative discussion. I have to say I was quite dissapointed to come home from work the other day to find it had been locked! Now, I didn't necessarily agree with what everyone was saying but I certainly do not see that as an excuse to be as rude as some of you were :( - I am surprised at some comments I see on this board and sometimes wonder how brave some of you would be exposed from your alter-ego's and pc screens! For goodness sake, this is an informative (and I used to think) friendly information exchange, we are probably old enough to respect other's opinions by now? Can't we all just get along  - Let's try and encourage other people to join our forum rather than scare them away??
Sarah
ps. Feel better now :)

Here here!!!
Well said Sarah. :) I haven't actually read most of it, I lost interest early on ;)

Sarah,
I'm with you...... some of things that are said on here would warrant you a good slap if it was face to face. Manners seem to left outside by some. :)
It's always the same old people ganging up on others and cant accept anyone elses opinions as being right or valid.
I used to think it was just a coincedence when one particular poster started ganging up on someone and then the other appeared within minutes, but it is clearly a regular pattern!
Then there are the few who would argue with a bit of dirt if it dared disagree with them ;)
I am the first to admit that i love being involved in a good debate, and it also makes for entertaining reading!
To be honest i would love to come face to face with a couple of posters i have had arguments with here, then i could really say what i think, which has become difficult to do on this forum as big brother is always watching and things never get to get out of hand
Sometimes politeness and diplomacy dont get through to some people, the only way to get your point heard is to be harsh!
I admire your restraint Chloe,i would have let things get personal,i cant hold back,if someone gives it they must be prepared to take it!!
P.S Rozzer, iff we all got along, things would get pretty boring ;)
christine

Luckily most of us can disagree and still get along! A difference of opinion doesn't matter between friends, and there's no need to get rude! It's a shame when debates 'get out of hand' because then they just get childish.
:)

I agree with you. It was a civilised unheated exchange of opinions up until true facts were rudely disputed. It seems that being able to have differing views and not let it become personal is an acquired skill.

Well apart from a few...............

Are you looking for trouble, Joe? Well, you look over there and I'll look over here ... find any? That's all right then.

I think that anyone who knows me off forum/as a friend knows I am exactly the same on here as I am in real life. I wouldn't say something on here I was not prepared to say directly to someones face. But as someone who holds a strong belief regarding that particular subject, I felt it entirely appropriate to express that belief in a public debate. Only when folk started getting personal, nasty, rude and downright provocative did I struggle to keep my cool.
That said, I am still waiting for my apology - but I doubt whether the person who accused me of making up facts is big enough to offer one.

Chloe i don't think you need to explain yourself at all. I don't remember any of the replies by yourself being rude.
To me you just came across as passionate about what you were saying.
There a small amount of people on this forum, who, ARE right, and god help you if you disagree with them.

Thank you :) I appreciate that.
Just finished reading the GN post, i read it two days ago, and so i've only just go the last half. I cannot believe how rude and personal some of those replies got. Why is it some people think that just because they don't believe in someone elses beliefs they have to make horrible sarcastic comments about the poster. If you wish to engage in a discussion that is fairly heated - as most discussions about causes that people are passionate about will be - why do SOME people need to mock the poster and make them look stupid? Thats not a discussion!! I think the people involved know exactly who we are talking about too.
Well done ChloeH for not geting mad - i don't know if i could be so patient!

That particular person has been very quiet ever since. ;)
No! I'm still here!! ;) :D
liberty :)

Yeah, I noticed how rude your post was, lib! :D :D
I've just read through the grand national debate (took me long enough!)
I'm really surprised by some of it, and I would be very embarrassed if I had been so rude and getting my facts wrong. If I ever dare to join in a controversial issue, I will make sure I get my facts straight for sure :)
Everyone has the right to an opinion, its just a shame that people can't be polite when they voice it.
ChloeH sent you a pic of my staffie and dobie the other day, don't know if you had it - its a great one :)

Yep - got it. I have a backlog of pics at the moment - I will put them up today if I get chance (yes Lib - and yours) :D :D
Thanks Chloe, *taps fingers impatiently* ;) I understand how busy you must be with 4 horses !! ;)

Unfortunately i missed reading the GN thread "pre-padlock" :) but my contribution is thus: some people seem to be getting confused between the regulations of NH racing & point-to pointing!!!!! (incidentally I DO know what I am talking about, having been/being involved with both forms of racing
I was laso very involved with a Tb who won 5th at the GN a few seasons ago, age 12. sadly we had to destroy him last year in his very happy retirement aged 23, due to ilness.

Not forgetting Hunter Chases on licenced courses, Sam.
:)
Sam, I'm not doubting your credentials, but resurrecting this subject will undoubtedly end up with this thread being locked too. As has already been said, some people are unable to debate, without getting nasty. Sad but true :(
Sorry to hear of the TB :( . It's never easy to lose an animal you're close too.

which quite person would that be? if its me your refering too i havent been on cuz a fellow champsdoger gave me a virus .... wonder who that could be! now we may have disagrements but whos childish now
the thread was on the grand national no other race so i was right you do not have to have hunted to race as i showed a few of you
Later that the british raceing boad emailed me
Thank you for your enquiry regarding a horse's entry into the Grand National.
Horses do not have to have hunted in order to qualify for entry into the Grand National Steeplechase, the entry requirements are that the horse must be aged 6 years or over and must have a rating of 110 or more from the BHB's handicapper.
BHB handicap ratings start a zero, horses are assessed by a team of handicappers on their racecourse performance and ability, the higher the handicap rating the better the horse's ability.
, Im not going to post anymore on this subject as this is suposed to be a locked thread .

There you go again. The discussion turned into racing in general which you were supporting. YOU brought up hunting. You are anti hunting, yet you support racing - an element of which you HAVE to hunt to qualify.
You want to watch those accusations "lovelylady". ANY directed at me will be dealt with.

LL, that thread, like all threads, expanded slightly to take in racing as a whole, but until you raised the topic of hunting and started digging the debate was completely civilised. As Chloe said (and you quoted), in <<certain elements of racing>> hunting is a requirement of entry. If you look on
the Jockey Club's site you will find that what she said is absolutely true.

ive just posted what the racing board said cant do anymore then that.

So apologise then. I said "in some elements of racing" you accused me of "making up facts" - I have proven that you have to hunt to qualify for point-to-point so therefore YOU are in the wrong, its not my fault if you didn't read the post properly. You think I didn't check my facts before I worded my post?
And might I say YOU were the rude one in that particular discussion. All because I said Dawn is "opinionated" - I don't see that as an insult or a derogatory remark, infact, personally I admire someone who is prepared to stick up for what they believe in. Oh, and for the record YOU are opinionated regarding hunting - so is that an insult?

theres another sport that involve horses , which is! crewl . grand national is once a year not every sunday! .
Look horse's love jumping and racing . ok there flight animals but they dont carry on in the race till the end unless they love it , plenty ran away from the racing horses ,
dont tell me there treated crewl , look at the good condition they are , some may be stabled but they get more then enough galloping time ,
We could say crateing a dogs the same . if it comes down to puting them in a stable

happy posting

"another sport that involve horses, which is! crewl . grand national is once a year not every sunday!" What sport every Sunday are you talking about?
Horses don't LOVE anything - they are not capable of such an emotion. They don't know any different If you were kept stabled for 24 x 7 or even overnight you would enjoy a good gallop.
Honestly LL, you need to present a structured argument for me to respond
lovelylady 05.04.04 12:56 BST [Misc]
chloeh you know what sport im on about the one we talked about before recently on the news . oh and your argument about the horses being kept in the stable all the time . sorry but they get more then enough time galloping threw those lovely feilds , once a day half the flippin day ! look how well conditioned they are. ok dogs and crated is the same thing whats your thoughts there . same as stables?

If you are talking about hunting - the point to point racers have to hunt to qualify? and most National runners probably do aswell
lovelylady 05.04.04 13:22 BST [Misc]
probably < you dont know just carry on making things up i like facts

happy posting
You didn't deny we were talking of hunting? You just change your story as you see fit to wriggle out of admitting you were wrong. When was 3 day eventing in the news?

lovelylady 03.04.04 18:16 GMT [Misc]
well i thought hedgehunter would win as i heard he was a good jumper plus i know a jockey whos riden him before , at the end he was just so tired he fell at the jump , no horses were pts or got injured although a jocky broke his wrist , more horses get hurt 3 day eventing then any other horse sport , and that insent just one day a year . having said that horses get hurt everyday riding or by people trying to hurt them ...slashing them or even hanging them . 3 horses not far from me were slashed and thats happening everyday .i do think 6ft 2 is a little high to jump def think they should be lowerd .

please dont direct anything too me too ,anyway as i said this is last reply on this sub . over and out
