Topic Other Boards / Foo / Baby 5 days overdue
- By craigles [gb] Date 06.04.04 15:20 UTC
Hi, my first grandchild was due to be born last Thursday the 1st April.  My daughter didn't want to give birth on that day but wants to now that she is 5 days late........any suggestions that may prompt labour...obviously safe ones....old wives tales anything???  She is due to be induced on Easter Sunday the 11th if labour doesn't start naturally before then.  Many thanks.
- By tohme Date 06.04.04 15:27 UTC
Oh the longer they stay in the better; what a great excuse to gorge on Easter Eggs :D :D  This happened to me but I went into labour a couple of days after and just managed to get into the hospital in time :D

Drive over speed bumps lots of times and fast :D it worked for me

when my mum was pregnant with me, i was 7 days late, the doctors wanted my mum to be induced but she was having none of that, she said she cleaned the house from top to bottom, had a rest then went out for a long walk, 20mins into the walk she started getting labour pains, decided to walk a bit longer seen as with my brother she was in early stages of labour for quite some time, carried on walking for another 25 or so mins, then my dad had to run to a pay phone and call an ambulance seen as her waters had broke, luckily where she was walking was only 10-mins walk from the hospital else i probably would have been born in the street  , she started giving birth to me in the ambulance and within 5mins of her being in the hospital i was born!

she got the idea of cleaning the house and going on long walks from her mum, so maybe the old wives tales are true :D

I was 2 weeks late with both mine :) 9 lb 3 and 9 lb 8!! :)
- By craigles [gb] Date 06.04.04 15:54 UTC
She is infact taking after me as I was late with all of mine.  1st one = 8 days late, 2nd - 9 days late, 3rd = 17 days late (would not let them induce me!) 4th one 7 days late, she was the smallest at 7lb 4oz, she is the second born, the others being, 8lb 1oz, 10lb exact, and 10lb 6oz!  her baby is small or so they say but she is so it needs to be really.  She is getting so fed up bless her.

My oldest was 18 days late and then had to be induced and had a difficult birth. I was getting desparate with my second, 14 days late and due to go in on the Sunday to be induced - had tried everything, curries, bumpy car ride, etc  - fortunately she turned up by herself on the Saturday :)

A good hot curry followed by a good romp should help to get things going :D ;)
- By Daisy [gb] Date 06.04.04 16:54 UTC
Doesn't work :D :D

There is one thing in the 'romping' area which is supposed to get things started, but I couldn't possibly say what it is on an open Forum! And I can't vouch for it either!
- By Daisy [gb] Date 06.04.04 17:15 UTC
Oh - we obviously didn't try that then :D

Nothing works unless the baby is willing to cooperate. Best you can do is forget all about it and arrange lots of nice things to do and you can be sure baby will decide to show up then! None of our lot arrived on their due date and I used to lie about the dates to confuse the " Are you still goin about? My youre late now eh?" brigade who used to tempt me to murder by this stage!
- By Harriet [gb] Date 06.04.04 20:42 UTC
I was 18 days late with my youngest. Get the consultant to give her an internal, that should do the trick it did with me! If all else fails, a curry and a bonk usually helps. Good luck, hope it all happens soon. :D
- By chaliepud [gb] Date 07.04.04 07:31 UTC
Agrre with Harriet, ask the midwife to do a sweep of the cervix, it is very uncomfortable but got me going in a few hours!!!
- By LJS Date 07.04.04 11:41 UTC
The 'romping' bit's output ( the one half of the ingredient for making a baay :D ) actually has a similar ingredient to the hormone they use for inductions . It is a natural version ! :D :D Even if it doesn't work at least they will have fun doing it which will take their mind off the fact that the baby hasn't come out yet :p
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 07.04.04 11:53 UTC
I gather ingestion of said product is very effective at starting things going ...
- By tohme Date 07.04.04 12:29 UTC
OMG you don't mean people actually have s*x when they are pregnant!

I feel an attack of the vapours coming on........................................... :D
- By Brainless [gb] Date 07.04.04 18:22 UTC
Yep, it is the one time you are guaranteed to have no risk of getting pregnant.  :D :D
- By craigles [gb] Date 07.04.04 14:00 UTC
she was offered a sweep of the cervix yesterday at the hospital and said 'no', now upon reflection she wishes she had said yes!  Oh well, no twinges still today and she's gone off into town now to meet a friend.  Mmmmm she can't do the rumpy pumpy bit as she is the one that split from the fella early on and he hasn't had anything to do with her for weeks so she is alone hence why, she moved back home and I am the birthing partner.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 07.04.04 14:23 UTC
I agree, the 'natural induction substance' could be awkward (not to say embarrassing!) to acquire. ;)
- By Lauren [gb] Date 07.04.04 11:58 UTC
Haven't any suggestions myself as have never had a baby but i wish your daughter luck. My mum was pregnant nearly 11 months with me, was supposed to be born 29th February and was born 22nd April. When i did decide to turn up though my mum was only in labour for 7 minutes. Would not happen these days i suppose but an interesting way to come into the world.

my youngest was 7 days late. i went in on the sunday afternoon to be induced on the monday morning. a doctor gave me an internal and i actually felt him open the neck of my womb (didnt hurt just a weird sort of cracking sound)my son was born 3 hrs later weighing 8 pounds 11 ounces. i tried the hot curries ect just gave me a sore bum from sitting on the loo all weekend. lol. :)
- By jakesmum [gb] Date 07.04.04 17:14 UTC
I have heard thet eating fresh pineapple can start off labour. I'm on the other end of the spectrum, me and hubbie are trying for baby no3 I will hopfully find out at the weekend if i'm pregnant.
- By chaliepud [gb] Date 07.04.04 17:39 UTC
Me too Jakes Mum!  I'm finding it really hard to not do the test too early, scared of disappointment!  Though it is the first month of trying and I'm having some suspicious symptoms!  Could be psychosomatic!!!!!
Hope your daughter pops soon Craigles, I have also heard that pineapple helps, and I did try the Raspberry Leaf Tea first time round, but couldn't stick to it as it tasted disgusting!  (Then again, I don't like normal tea or coffee!)
- By jakesmum [gb] Date 07.04.04 18:17 UTC
Hi chali, I too have been having some "symptoms" also our 1st month of trying.
- By chaliepud [gb] Date 07.04.04 18:36 UTC
What do you have already? I have a boy aged nearly 5 and a little girl just 3, not bothered what we have next although after the last few days I have had with my son, maybe another girl would be nice! :)  Good luck with your result!
- By jakesmum [gb] Date 07.04.04 18:40 UTC
I have 2 boys 5 and 2 , dont really care what we have I think that it would be nice to have a girl. When will you be finding out if you are pregnant?
- By chaliepud [gb] Date 07.04.04 18:54 UTC
Well, I think I am on day 28 today, but will probably wait until Saturday to do the test, though I have bought a pack of two because I am sure I will be too impatient to wait!  What about you?
Hayley
- By jakesmum [gb] Date 07.04.04 19:14 UTC

- By chaliepud [gb] Date 08.04.04 09:48 UTC
Any news yet Craigles?
- By craigles [gb] Date 08.04.04 11:19 UTC
Nothing happening yet Chaliepud, she is downstairs merrily munching a bowl of spaghetti!  Week overdue now so beginning to look like I know where I'll be on Sunday the induction day.  I've already asked her if she wants to walk the dogs with me today and she said she would and today is river bank day so a nice long walk, well they say Gravity is good!  So you never know.
- By luvly [gb] Date 08.04.04 13:40 UTC
haha . just as long as she dosent have it on the river back. although u may think up some cool names from that
- By craigles [gb] Date 08.04.04 18:25 UTC
well we're back and all of us go absolutely soaked through but nothing to report as yet!  She has chosen the names Rhys Finlay for a boy and Beth Jade for a girl as she didn't want to know the sex of the baby  it is even more exciting for us both....oh well won't be long...hopefully.
- By LJS Date 08.04.04 18:43 UTC
After a long walk you never know , tonight could see things starting ! :D

At the end of the day it will happen when it happens ! It is nature after all :D
- By craigles [gb] Date 09.04.04 22:24 UTC
Well the walk didn't work, 8 days late now and the induction day is looming nearer and nearer! Oh well at least I may have some new about being a Grandma maybe Sunday or Monday??  So long as she/he is healthy.  Would really like the baby to be born on Tuesday as that is my Dad's birthday (sadly passed away 5yrs ago.)  However, can't expect her to wait till Tuesday and surely they won't let her go that long, but I guess I'm in for a long sit in the hospital from Sunday at 8a.m

Good luck to you and your daughter Craigles!  I was listening to the radio one day and they were talking about recent studies which seemed to show that women coped better with giving birth when they had another woman with them as the birthing partner :)  I know that when I had my daughter I was crying for my Mum -  I wish she could have been there!  What a wonderful experience it will be for you to see the birth of your Grandchild :)

I WAS AT THE BIRTHS OF MY 2 GRANDAUGHTERS (DIDNT HAVE ANY OPTION WITH HER 2ND SHE HAD HER ON THE LIVING ROOM FLOOR!)AND IT WAS A FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE. GOT THERE 5 MINS LATE TO SEE MY GRANDSON BORN.
- By craigles [gb] Date 10.04.04 16:23 UTC
thank you to all for your messages, I am so so so excited, more so than my daughter I think, she appears to be taking it all in her stride.  Everything is ready and in place at home and in the case for the hospital.  I consider this to be such an honour to witness my grandchild being born and I'm sure one I will never forget.  Maybe it won't be too long now before I'm heading a new post I'm a Grandma!
