I wonder if any of you dog loving people can give me a bit of your expertise. I have a Weimaraner pup & am having trouble finding a good insurance cover for her. The thing that worries me most is that some appear to give excellent cover but then as the dog gets older the cover disappears as anything is "written off" as due to old age. I am looking for an insurance with lifetime cover, with as few exemptions as possible. eg. when you ask "If my pup was found to be diabetic at six months would you pay for the treatment needed for life? The usual answer is either confusion at the question or no.
Any advice or your personal experience and expertise would be very much welcomed.
Thank you
Pushy

Hi lel
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with a claim. I know from bitter experience with private medical insurance for myself with BUPA how many things you think you're covered for and then discover your're not.
Which insurer are you having the problem with, just out of interest? If you are allowed to say?
Thank you for responding to my original question

I have no reason to with hold the name - they are ARGOS but I shan't be with them for much longer and I definitely will NOT be recommending them to others from now on :(

Thank you lel for the name. I didn't even know argos did pet insurance and won't bother finding out about it now. Thank you for being so helpful.

Im glad this thread is on as I wanted to tell people that the last two years I have benefited from Saga insurance.
we have been with them about five years. One claim was for a lovely lab we had she had somehow got hold of some greenhouse insectacide papers and chewed them up and was very poorly resulting in her death at 8 months . Other claims started with Ned my young GWP he got run over we were ouit walking and he lost me and headed for home and his bill was over 700 + pounds we paid just £35 then shortly after our beloved Minnie a black lab aged 2 died of Pyometra although they didnt cover postmortem cost they paid out the full £450 she was insured for not that it could help us grieve but it did help us when we were ready to buy another puppy.
We did buy another Puppy eventually Annie another black lab sadly she also has been under the vet for a few weeks now and reffered to a specialist the specialist bill alone up to now is £430.93 and that doesnt include our own vets fees and follow up appointments.
Also Ned recently had some ear trouble and that was covered.
I cant recommend pet insurance enough and especially Saga (trouble is have to be old biddy to get it LOL ) I belive petplan to be very good too.also speaking of petplan our rescue has some application forms and if they get taken up they will give us commision so may do it with your favourite charity too.
I would urge anyone with a dog please get covered you do not know what round the corner.
More than, are very good too, they cover each illness/accident up to a maximum of £6000.00 Regardless of timescale, unlike a lot of other insurers. I've also heard lots of good reports about Petplan too.

Two years ago I too applied to Saga for a quote. As one of my dogs has a ongoing problem (which I told them I knew would not be covered) they said they would ask their underwriters about insuring her. I am still waiting for a reply! Needless to say I did not hang around and went to Petplan who covered her with no restrictions on forthcoming problems - thank goodness as she now has another two lifetime problems for which I will be covered for.

I am also with Petplan. They charge a very reasonable monthly or yearly premium and insure for life dispite previous health history, or health problems that may arise. I have had to claim for one of my boys before,(he inhaled a grass seed up his nose, infection set in etc). The claiming was extremly straight forward and easily delt with.
I've been with NFU for the last 2 -3 years however, just received my renewal notice and they have put up premiums by £120! (I have not made any claims) Going to try Marks and Spencers as it appears to be lifetime cover and similar to the premiums I paid with NFU to start with.

I am with pet-plan and they are good, my dog has eye problems and is now about to be referred to his 3rd specialist, they have paid up on everything.
